General Discussion / Re: 7.5 in scale live steamer for sale (B&SR #7)

I should also mention I have a lap of track with 2 switches one of which is a 3 way stub like at Sheepscot.  AND there's a 5ft x 7ft station like at SS, AC and TB.

Thinking along the lines of 7 1/2 at the museum, I have a Forney based on WW&F No 10, gondola and caboose. Engine and caboose are large enough for adults to ride INSIDE. The engine is NOT live steam--battery operated.  Safe for children to be around and even operate.  Lately I find maintaining and running my railroad is increasingly difficult.
SO....If anyone is interested in owning it I'd like to talk with you.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZpFmuoTzr4

Museum Discussion / Re: HOn30 Kit of SR&RL 6 (WW&F 9)

If anyone is interested in building a model railroad - modest in scope but operationally accurate, might I suggest basing it on the current north end of the
WW&F Museum tracks.
From hidden staging (a hidden return loop if you have room) the train emerges from the trees coming down the mountain and crosses the covered bridge at Trout Brook and on to the station. There, the train is turned and heads back south.  Operational potential is anything but complex however, the scenic and scratch building opportunities are grand. But not overwhelming, I think. If a good running model of No9 is available, one need only build the station, turn table, covered bridge and some passenger cars which might even be kit-bashed from HO rolling stock or Bachmann On30 cars. A challenge, yes but that's the point of the hobby.
I see this layout as built on a narrow shelf attached to a wall relying on the backdrop for scenic effect rather than a lot of physical terrain modeling.
I would also point out that it is my experience that this works best when the shelf is placed high-near eye level. An added benefit is the space under the layout remains usable.
This "North End" layout could easily be relocated and might become one end of a model of the entire Museum.
There could be lifetime of model railroading pleasure in this as just about anything the Museum runs might make to the north end sometime.
If anyone is interested in discussing this further with me contact me at  bob@miamirailservice.com

Any idea about the price?

Their website lists the Forney as sold out.
Too bad.  I'd love to have one of these!

I am hoping to build a kitbashed On30 model of No9 using an HO mechanism I have.
Does anyone know where I can get a line profile drawing like is used on the museum logo.
I could probably work from the logo but it's pretty small. Also, what id the driver diameter- I van scale the drawing from this.
Thanks - Bob Springs.

Is this the final exterior color or will it be painted like SS and AC?

In HO scale, be weary of train set stuff as these are usually very cheaply made.
Common in train sets are poor running mechanisms in locomotives, track with brass rail (which oxidize and must be cleaned for electrical conductivity as opposed to nickel silver) as well as poorly working couplers and marginal power supplies.
I would recommend fewer models of better quality and build from there.

That flanging machine is turning out to be quite a versatile tool!   :D

I watched the movie and I thought it was really good.
It puts faces (and voices) on several names.  I plan to watch it again.

It's great to see the turntable project progressing so well but... (and I hope I'm wrong about this) I can't help but worry about security with such an item of curiosity clearly visible from a public highway in an isolated area.
Not that I know what to do about it.

As a longtime large scale model railroader I am very familiar with LGB.  This company has always been known for strong, rugged and well engineered models.
High scale fidelity, NOT SO MUCH.  But the general garden railroad market didn't demand a high degree of scale so rugged stand-off replicas were just fine.
Also, LGB trains are engineered to operate on VERY sharp curves, so the shorter coaches.
My scale buddies and I considered LGB as a starting point for conversation to higher scale standards.

Museum Discussion / WW&F Phone system

I ran across this documentary about the development of telephones on You Tube.

I wonder which, if any, of these closely resembles the phone system used by the museum.

How about the theme from Beverly Hillbillies?
