Any chance I can mail-order one of those plate holders? I really want to throw one on my car...

It looks good... Can't wait to see it again with this new beam... But if it's been found that no. 9 doesn't conform to the basic Portland Co. specifics after this many years, then would it hurt to have an over-sized pilot beam  ::)

Other Narrow Gauge / Re: WW1 Baldwin 10-12-D Still out there

Just thought the masses might like this, but I found a webpage with pictures of the two repatriated Baldwins...
I'm curious, but what is the mechanical condition of the two?

You know what might not be a bad idea? See if WPI or one of the other technical schools in the region would be willing to make some mini replicas of No. 11's number plates on their CNC machine... Sell them to raise funds for the project and give out some flyers describing the endeavor with them...

Whimsical Weirdness and Foolery / Re: Hypothetical Bus Trip

Hmm... I really like that idea of picking up at Union Station. The only problem is that parking isn't free right there. As for what the $55 gets, it gets a run on the train and on the boat. Now... We could see what it would take to get some decent catering, like Subway or the like.

Whimsical Weirdness and Foolery / Hypothetical Bus Trip
« on: September 03, 2013, 04:21:03 PM »
Alright, I've got a little "hypothetical" situation for everyone... Let's assume that someone markets a bus trip to one of the scenic operations within an hour or so of, say, Worcester, MA. For kicks and giggles, lets say the Valley Railroad. Assuming the price for the trip, which covers the bus and the ticket on the Valley Railroad, is $55, would you guys think of purchasing a ticket? Of course, this is entirely "hypothetical", but some input would be appreciated. I already got some positive input from the New England and New York Railfan group on Facebook.Using some of that input, I included the River Boat into my calculus... Seriously, thoughts anyone? I know it isn't WW&F related, but I could use the input. Is the price to steep? Any thoughts on the "hypothetical" trip?

I'd wager those trucks are original... If I recall correctly, those are the same trucks 1055 had equipped while on the Conway Scenic. I think that some of the other ex-Portland Terminal units had similar trucks...

Well Mike, looks like the old gears were turning... Maybe I'm reading to much into this, but it looks like someone has some new ideas for ROWMOW v2  ::)

Museum Discussion / Re: WW&F #10

Well, #10 got a new boiler for use at Pleasure Island, didn't she? Not only that, but Dugas and Leblanc bough three 0-4-4s of the same design, one of which is in Lampasas, TX with the 0-6-2 "Bertha". If there's a picture of that one (I believe it is #1) floating around, someone could do a comparison. I also dug up another picture of one of the Dugas and Leblanc engines at the Westfield factory. Can't tell if its one of the 0-6-2s or 0-4-4s though...

I'm curious as to what happened to that Crown...

Got a few of my pictures for the masses now that I've made it home... Couldn't upload them here because the files are to big, so here's the link to the album that was set up for a few of them on the Seven Railroads Chapter NRHS Facebook page;
I'm planning on doing a short blurb on the event later today, and I'll quote it here once it gets put up.

Man, I look like a jamoke, don't I? I have a few pics I can put up, but without a computer I can't upload any. I should be able to get at least one up tomorrow night one I get home... I very much look forward to coming back.

Stewart, I'll be up tomorrow so I can help unload the handcar. Do you have an idea of what time you might need me up there?
