Bill, that sounds like a lot of fun. Next time I'm thereabouts, I'll have to think about that as well. Unlike the folks who live relatively nearby, I have to plan ahead for a time to explore as you do as well. My wife and I spend a week in that general area each summer so my chances to explore are of the warm weather variety. Unfortunately that brings on the "little critters" and foliage.

When you view that site now with the food store and parking lot, it's interesting trying to imagine the former mill on the same site.

Mike, Thanks for digging up my old pictures. As I was reading the start of this article I was trying to recall where I put my copies of those pictures. You saved me a bit of searching. Unfortunately, I have not taken any other pictures beyond those that were already loaded.

Great shots one and all but it looks to have been bitterly cold. I can't fault that dozer for not wanting to start without some extra warming. I hope you had a fire nearby to give you all a place to warm up a bit although I don't see one in any of the pictures.

This is an update on my previous post regarding accommodations for the Spring Work Weekend. My wife made repeated attempts to contact the Edgecomb Inn regarding a deal or deals that could be made for museum members/visitors who needed a place to stay during the SWW. The Edgecomb Inn has not responded to her repeated attempts. If anyone chooses to use the Inn and manages to strike a deal perhaps they could share that information here for others who may need a place to stay in the spring.

My wife took the liberty of approaching both The Cod Cove Inn and The Sheepscot Harbor Village and Resort about their accommodations for museum spring work weekend attendees from away since the Wiscasset Woods Motel will not be open at that time in spring 2018.
Cod Cove Inn - 1-800-882-9586 or 1-207-882-9586; 1 queen room - $139.00/night, 2 queen $149.00/night, 1 king $159.00/night all before 10% discount for the museum but you must ask for the discount. Continental breakfast included. 19 rooms left as of 10/7 at 7:30 pm.
Sheepscot Harbor Village and Resort - 1-207-882-4200; 1 queen $139.00/night, they do give military discounts, person on desk did not have authority to comment on discounts for museum members - maybe/maybe not.

Hope this info helps others to find rooms spring 2018.

I'm with you, Steve, about "the lodge" and their choice to not be open for the SWW. It was totally full this year for the SWW. I know, I was able to luck out and get the last open room. But, that said, the other days until the middle of May are probably not totally full and running a business like that is about profit. A business has to do what's best for the business. James has been kind enough to list a number of other local and not so local facilities that will be able to house any of us who need a place to rest our heads for the SWW.

Mike and Bill, great photos of some really great culvert work and right-of-way rebuilding work. Thanks for the pics for us, the "away" folks, and the great write-ups on what's being done, by whom and when. Can't wait for the FWW so I can see some of this work first-hand.

Like Ed and others, we also took the itemizing route with my taxes when we were working. We were easily able to get above the minimum amount needed to have deductions that surpassed what "Uncle Sam" gives those who do the short form. The money spent for travel, room and board on work weekends as well as donations at the museum really made a difference. Now that Barb and I are both retired, we have found there are not enough deductions even with our donations of time and effort at the museum and other spots. We still make our museum donations and help such as we can but we no longer get a tax benefit from doing so. One of the few non-benefits of being retired. LOL

Very nice pictures Matthew. I have been to the Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes museum several times but never in winter. You have done a wonderful job of capturing the stark beauty of the museum blanketed in a deep layer of snow. Wonderful presentation.

I expect to be present helping out at the Amherst Railway Show to help out as I have been for the past 2 years. Advise what might be expected of me if John couldn't make it and perhaps I could be the person you are inquiring about. After all, my home base is just 20 minutes away.
