Thanks, I've emailed Oyster Bay folks several times and gotten no response. Makes me sick that as a child I went to Long Island when these were still running but didn't get to see them.

Thanks, Cosmo. No, no opening doors. Oddly, only the cheapest HO cars I've ever seen modeled planks on the ubderside. On these real reefers, all the brake rigging is visible so I thought I'd do the boards also.

I'm doing some S gauge Swift reefers from plans in Model Railroader's soft cover 1954 HO book "Build Your Own Model Cars and Locos" that I've had 55 years and never built anything from it.
Would it be prototype to have scribed wood on the bottom on these wooden real life cars and which direction should the boards be running?

I was impressed with the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania when my son and I visited in 2004. I was really impressed with Hurricane Ivan that struck the state that evening and halted operations of the East Broadtop the next day. The only thing I could see above the flood was the George Bush for President signs in what I had been told was a blue state.

Putting a bug in the ear(s) of Eagle Scout candidate(s) is probably the best idea. Whoever decided to take it on should check in with Maine's department of natural resources or whatever it's called to learn trail blazing from professionals. Else you might have nothing but ruts after every rain. I know that when I went to work for GA's DNR there was a book on making trails in my cubical. Very interesting. I think about it as I hike the Appalachian Trail here in Georgia when I notice techniques I read about to prevent erosion.
After it's built Wayne could start writing for hiking magazines about the new trails.

Thanks for both the information and entertainment. Who said Maine men didn't have a sense of humor? What I have found out in this project is that: 1. I should have made it bigger somehow and, 2. Trying to rout tongue and groove boards is really tough when you are not set up for keeping long boards perfectly flat. I don't think I'll ever get the dust I created out of my garage.
