Museum Discussion / Re: Movie about #9: "The Nine Lives of #9"

I watched the movie and I thought it was really good.
It puts faces (and voices) on several names.  I plan to watch it again.

It's great to see the turntable project progressing so well but... (and I hope I'm wrong about this) I can't help but worry about security with such an item of curiosity clearly visible from a public highway in an isolated area.
Not that I know what to do about it.

As a longtime large scale model railroader I am very familiar with LGB.  This company has always been known for strong, rugged and well engineered models.
High scale fidelity, NOT SO MUCH.  But the general garden railroad market didn't demand a high degree of scale so rugged stand-off replicas were just fine.
Also, LGB trains are engineered to operate on VERY sharp curves, so the shorter coaches.
My scale buddies and I considered LGB as a starting point for conversation to higher scale standards.

Museum Discussion / WW&F Phone system
« on: July 11, 2021, 12:02:58 AM »
I ran across this documentary about the development of telephones on You Tube.

I wonder which, if any, of these closely resembles the phone system used by the museum.

Calling this work "outstanding" is an understatement!

As a life long cabinet maker I feel I have some idea of how much work goes into building this coach.
Careful SKILLED work.
Seeing this project come together is an absolute JOY!

Rough time of the year to trim off those whiskers B.J.
Ask me how I know this.

Glad to hear the SR&CL is still running.  This fine railroad is what set me off to build my Bountyland Railway.

What a thoughtful Christmas present!
A chance for us in the away crowd to see faces and hear voices of friends we've never met in person.

Merry Christmas all!

Perfect!

Mike makes an excellent point.
Building more than can be properly maintained would compromise safety and we surely don't want that.

Were there sheep in the area.  Sheep are smaller than cattle.
With a name like sheepscot I always supposed there were.
