I sanded the old windows on coach 8.  It does not seem practical to sand them to bare wood...I tried.  I have primed them in prep for repainting a bright brown to match the stained and varnished windows on coach 9.  Tempered Glass to be installed starting today.

There certainly are windows in the doors.   One has been installed for several years this is the second to allow access to both sides if necessary.

Spring work weekend is approaching.   I plan to work on the coach again.

We have a second "baggage" door which will help with handicap access.  My plan is to install it this weekend.

I have two 4inch quarter round posts for the door frame.   I have ordered barn door style rolling hardware for the door, we may have to fiddle to install them, I hope they are suitable.  We will have to cut the side of the coach for the opening and frame the door opening.  Interior seats and trim will have to be modified.

We will repaint the car to match coach 9 with the dark olive green with gold lettering.  This will probably happen after the work weekend and be done by the weekday coach crew, but extra volunteers are most welcome.

I hope some of you can help with this project.  It should be good honest carpentry and will greatly help the railway.

I made the costume jewelry for SR&RL #6.  The tank lettering is vinyl on black painted magnetic sheets.  The cab number is a thin piece of black painted plywood with Vinyl numbers.  I turned the "9" over on the insides of the headlight.

The number plate is brass plate sawn out and screwed to the blank reproduction plate.  Where did that plate com from? I have heard some one made several a while back but what did he or she use for a pattern?

Bill, the brown has grown on me so that the green looks funny... that is what happens when you play with models!

we held up color chips to see what we were looking at. of the chips we had the "Kilz" color LM 100 (b3) "Incence Stick" looks really close -- think UPS truck Brown. which is "Pullman Brown" according to Google.

I also spent some time sifting through Jackson and Sharp images and found some good shots of similar cars.  This one shows the striping really well. http://delaware.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/singleitem/collection/p15323coll6/id/3733/rec/1

I got some more samples from the glass manufacturer and we are getting VERY close to the original color.  The "Florentine" texture is also very close. The only noticeable difference seems to be that the new stuff has a button in the center of each rosette while the original does not.  The rosettes are nearly the same size and character.  I am getting two more color samples and should be really close.  I'll get some prices and replace the plastic panels in coach 3 to see how it looks.

I did some research and found some glass for the clerestory.  http://www.wissmachglass.com/textures.html scroll down to "Florentine 01"  this stuff comes in different colors.  if it is not an exact replacement only a skilled eye can tell without them being side by side.  If we send them an original piece of glass they can match the color.

I would expect to be able to do either day, but bringing the model railway would be harder for both.
