Other Narrow Gauge / Boston, Revere Beach & Lynn RR/Laconia Car Company

I have recently stumbled across a strange little narrow gauge railroad that ran in the suburbs of Boston. The Boston, Revere Beach & Lynn Railroad. I am trying to track down all the information I can on their MU coaches that were converted from Laconia built coaches. Do any of the Laconia Car Company drawings exist? If anyone here has information on the BRB&L cars please feel free to share. I purchased the book "Narrow Gauge The Story of the Boston, Revere Beach & Lynn Railroad" but it only has so much information and I question the accuracy of the drawing of one of the coaches in it. The wheel base listed for the MCB style truck is 6'6" and that just seems way to long.

Museum Discussion / North yard project

I have seen that the grading has been started on the north yard project. I was wondering what is the order of the parts of this project. Will the car storage building be built first? Is the roundhouse part of this project. I havent been up there in a while and I'm just trying to get an idea of the plan. Im guessing that the parking lot and septic system are part of this expansion. Wasnt there a map posted here at some point?

General Discussion / The Taconnet lives!!!!!!!!

In 7/8th scale that is. I was at a large scale live steam meet over the weekend at a friends house in New Jersey and was surprised when I saw someone wearing a WW&F T-shirt. I was even more surprised when he opened the rather large box he had with him. The car is scratch built and took over a year and a half to build. All of the windows and doors operate and the mail room is complete right down to the mail clerk's coffee cup! It runs on G gauge track and it is massive! Hope you like the pics.







This last photo is the car sitting next to a 1:20.3 scale three foot gauge passenger car. Both cars run on the same track. Gives you an idea of the size.


O and not to be forgotte was the WW&F flat car he built as well.

If anyone here has some WW&F inspired artwork they would like to share lets see it! I'll start things off with "Train Time at Sheepscot." If memory serves me correctly I believe thats Bill Reidy in the cab.

Bridgton & Saco River Railway / A little peice of the #6

Here is a little peice of information that Im sure is little known. Im sure many of you have heard of Edgar Mead. He was very active in trying to save the B&H in its last years. This was not Mr. Meads only railroad involvement however. Mr. Mead purchesed Ely Thomas Lumber Co. two truck shay #6 (I am not sure of the date). This locomotive ended up on a long term lease with the New Jersey Museum of Transportaion better known as the Pine Creek Railroad. A few changes were made to the locomotive including the addition of a new headlight. This headlight just happened to be the headlight from B&SR #6 as seen on page 81 of "Two Feet to the Lakes." The shay has been out of service for the past few years awaiting needed repairs. The headlight now rests in our shop. So a little peice of the long gone #6 still survives. Here is a picture of it on the shay.

I am currently trying to put together a plan to submit to the board for the restoration of D&RGW boxcar #3178. Seeing how you guys are pros at wooden car restorations I figured I could ask a few questions here. What kind of wood should be used for end beams, siding, doors, and roofing?
