My sister and I were poking around the ROW up in Dallas and I came across this.

General Discussion / Kathadin Iron Works RR and the Ray Lumber Co.
« on: November 09, 2012, 02:52:27 PM »
Good day all. I've run across a future area of exploration and wanted to see if anyone else could fill me in.

https://www.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=213270298552370336255.0004cd7f130aff3d323c0&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=13&vpsrc=1

The Ray Lumber Co had a small amount of track that is just a short distance from the Kathadin Iron works, which also had a railroad that ran down to Brownville Junction (a place my father lived for a few years long before I was born).

Does anyone know the condition of the old ROW of the Katahdin RR?

I figure if I was to hike it, I would start at Brownville junction, from the Iron works hike over to Indian pond, and then trace the route south to the remains of the lumber mill and ghost town, south to the CN, and back to Brownville Junction.

General Discussion / Sebasticook & Moosehead Railroad

Here's another fallen flag. Lost but not forgotten. The most annoying part about this investigation was the inability to reach the remains of trestle a short distance North of Hartland over the Sebasticook because of private property. A video will be forthcoming shortly.

An interesting tidbit, was the idea that plans had been made to connect this to the Monson RR and thence to Moosehead Lake, and they actually got a charter, but couldn't come up with the financing.

Some recent pictures I took when I drove from Burnham Jct. to Unity

Is there any info on what used to be at Winnecook for them to build the siding there?

For those of you who have the books on the SR&RL, are there any photos of the lumber boom towns of Dallas and Reddington? Do you know if anyone has investigated if there's any remains today?

Good day all. This is kind of a "How I spent my vacation" thread. Hope I didn't make too many mistakes in the video. Enjoy! :)

Good day all. Recently I produced a google map of the entire route of the SR&RL. When I was visiting last week, I got to get some pictures and add them. If you notice any mistakes, please tell me.
