The drip edge, galvanized steel, has being prepared for painting, on the weekend it was "pickled" using white vinegar to better hold the paint, plans are to complete painting today (5/21).

I've been out of circulation for a while, back surgery, which had a good outcome. I'm back from 5 months volunteer work at Puffing Billy. While I was there I lapped in several whistle valve seats. But it occurs to me the #9 whistle in going to sound very much like the whistles on Na's at Puff. I hope it is not as high pitched as the Garratt, (G42) which has, as you might expect, a distinctly British sound....

I've been involved in a project to scan all of the Workshop Drawings at Puffing Billy. No small undertaking, they will be stored in several locations to assure they will be available, and safe in case of disaster.
That has me wondering, how many WW&F locomotive drawings still exist?

I spend 6 to 8 months of the year at the Puffing Billy Railway in Australia volunteering in the locomotive workshops. Puff has on-site accommodation for volunteers.
I'd like to spend several months volunteering at WW&F and I am looking for accommodation nearby. What I am seeing for "summer rentals" far exceeds my budget. I'm looking for a one bedroom or studio type of accommodation.
Any suggestions? Thank you.

The Newport built baby Baldwins here are very close kin to Maine two foot locomotives, you will find many parts built from the same prints. Clarification, those holders above the water glass are for your tea, and real Aussies don't drink Fosters!
Puffing Billy has from 3 to 6 trains running everyday except Christmas, and is in every way a real railway, not a tourist operation. They have both volunteer and paid staff.
Puffing Billy and WW&F have one thing in common, they rebuild their locomotives and rolling stock not just fix the boiler, paint it and call it done, like so many tourist operators. Both railways can be very proud of their maintenance standards. Well done!

Hi, I'm Linc, a Life Member here, and also at the Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris, CA and the Puffing Billy Railway in Belgrave, Victoria, Australia.
I am currently at a extended volunteer visit at Puffing Billy, I've been here since November 1st 2014, and return to the U.S. in May. Right now I am working on the regauging and rebuilding of a South African 2ft gauge Garratt. Puffing Bully is 2ft 6in gauge. The regular fleet of 2-6-2 locomotives are of a Baldwin design built in Australia, very close kin to the Maine Two Footers.
On my first visit to the WW&F I met Harry and Jason, at the time all that was there was a short length of track and the restored flat car. At that time we shared a summer home with my folks on Lake Messalonskee. Proir to relocating to Oregon I was able to participate in a few work weekends. I also donated a whistle that I was told had come from #8 after the wreck, although that has never been confirmed.
I have great respect for the museum for all that has been accomplished over the years, you are a great group of volunteers.
Now that I am retired I hope to spend more time at Alna working on whatever needs to be done.
