Saturday morning, we had a huge crew. Finished off the spiking, and one Hopper and one flat car of stone before lunch. Lunch. Also did some lining of track, and we are continuing to line track. There'll be another Hopper and another flat car coming down in short order..

  Cran-beer anyone??  ;D

How do you make Cran-beer? Why with Cranbeeries, of course.

Where's the Moxie?
I'm bringing 16 bottles. That's all my local distributor had. I asked them for three cases back in July, never heard back, stopped by today and "We'll have them for you in ten days".

Are we still implementing Dan's plans for Sunday? People were pretty discouraged Saturday morning because of the rain

It is listed on the calendar flyer we had at the Amherst show this weekend.

I'll bet! I didn't grab one, though.

Can someone fill in the dates for the spring work weekend? I can't find it anywhere on the website.

Work and Events / Pattern storage
« on: November 17, 2024, 11:11:43 PM »
Last year (FWW 2023) I donated some shelves for pattern storage, and we bought some boxes in which to store them. Somebody set the shelves up! Thank you!
Unfortunately, we could not make it to the Fall Work Weekend, but we rode Amtrak up the 2nd weekend in November, from Syracuse to Boston South Station, then North Station to Brunswick then car rental. I helped with logging on Saturday, Ewa helped organize the gift shop, and we went touring Sunday morning and saw the Kennebec Central. Sunday afternoon I boxed up all the patterns that I could find that would fit.

There remains more work:
  • I labeled some of the shelves with white tape and a list of patterns on that shelf. More needs to be labeled.
  • The long shelves were assembled with their vertical rods upside down. The leveling feet cannot be added unless they get turned right-side-up.
  • Once everything has been labeled, the shelves and boxes should be numbered and an online index should be created so that patterns may be easily located.
  • One of the patterns (photos included) is not labeled, although the style of construction implies that it's for #11. Anybody recognize it?
  • There are other, older, patterns on the floor in the back. They should get some love, too.

If nobody else gets to it before I do, then I'll do it, but it won't happen until FWW.

This fellow has a lot of short videos of this railway, mostly diesel, but this one is steam.

All of the public access points on the railroad have been renamed to WWFRwy. If your computer or cell phone can reach any of them, you will have connectivity. No need to be changing the ESSID anymore as you wander around the railroad. Thanks to Eva Nelson for this.

Russ, does your beverage mavin actually bottle Moxie?
No, they order it from Catawissa.

2023 Fall Work Weekend

Work sessions expected on Enginehouse, etc.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to express interest here or privately for specific aspects of our work plans.

I call dibs on the Enginehouse work once the cell booster has been trialed.

We didn't get to Catawissa, but instead bought out the entire stock of the local beverage mavin. People should probably limit themselves to one bottle the entire weekend.

Brendan Barry on the ladder installing rock wool insulation, as Zack Wyllie installs strapping to mount the interior wall planks.

Ahhh, Zack is a strapping young man!

The archive room now has lights and the outlets are hot. Good job, Josh! I ran an Ethernet cable as requested by Linda. We left an old laptop connected and running as evidence that the Ethernet jack is enabled. Only device we could find with an Ethernet port!
