I found this online map of railroads, too. It has the whole right way.

Hi,

My name is Rob Carignan. I did some volunteer track-work back in the mid 2000's which has always been something I've been proud of.

My brother in law just moved to Gardiner to Whitefield and wouldn't you know it, I'm  dead certain his new properly along the Sheepscot contains the right of way. We're heading up there tomorrow for coffee and I guarantee you I'll be exploring the property. He's about a 1/4 mile up 194 from the corner of Hollywood.

Bridgton & Saco River Railway / Junction ROW
« on: February 22, 2013, 04:06:52 PM »
I was finally able to get up to Bridgton to visit the Historical Society and get a look at the 1916 ROW maps.  I traced the junction on a 19 x 24 sheet of tracing paper. The scale is 1" = 100'. I now have to transcribe it in HO.

Hi all,

Have the location of these maps been determined? The Bridgton Historical Soc lists "B & SRR Track Map, Primary Sheets
B & SRR R.O.W. & Track Maps Misc. docs. In Bridgton Machine & Lumber Co. Coll., ca. 1910-1917 " on their website.

I'm thinking of heading up there soon to see if I can see them. I have next Thursday and Friday off.

No, I didn't, but I plan to head back up there with a GPS and tape measure.

Heading south from the bridge on 117 it's about 1500 feet. As the road begins to climb the hill and veer away from the river, there is a dirt road on the right.

Here is a Google street view link.

Oddly enough, our Delorme GPS labeled the dirt road "Train Street".

My family and I were up to camp in Fryeburg this past week and my son and I took an afternoon to chase down the B&SR roadbed from Hiram to Bridgton. We found the junction easy enough and were thrilled to even locate the turntable pit and engine house foundation.

We walked down the dirt road to the abandon MEC line the followed it until we recognized the passenger roadbed curving away. Following that we came across the engine house foundation and turn table pit. Back up towards the MEC line, where I assumed the station was located (due to the fact that the passenger spur paralleled the MEC) I came cross from granite blocks. Are these same same blocks as seen on page 208 of Jones' Two Feet to the Lakes?

The yard was quite over grown except for a couple of open areas. We didn't explore those but kept to the passenger spur.

General Discussion / Re: Who Am I? or, Let's Introduce Ourselves

Hello everyone,
My name is Rob Carignan and I live in Portland. Though new to the Forum, I am no stranger to the WW&F. I discovered the RR about eight years ago and even helped out on a couple of track Meets back in 2004, I think. It was the year the culvert washed out beyond Center Alna. I had so much fun at those track meets, I need to do it again.

I've recently ripped down my HO Plywood Central and am planning a narrow gauge layout. Joining the forum and reading up on all I can seemed the be the smart thing to do.
