Title: More narrow gauge for Sandstone
Post by: Wayne Laepple on November 24, 2021, 09:20:55 AM
The Sandstone Heritage Trust in South Africa is well-know for its extensive two-foot gauge railway and heritage museum, but the organization also owns a number of wide gauge (3'6") steam locomotives and other equipment. Most had been stored off-site at a former steam terminal in Germiston, but theft and vandalism was taking a toll on this equipment. So Sandstone decided to move everything to the estate. Below is a detailed report of how they moved this equipment by road to a new display area, with lots of cool details and photos. If you think this was easy, just contemplate moving a 4-8-4+4-8-4 Beyer Garratt on a truck!
