After Saturday's wind and rain storm an inspection trip would be a good idea.
-
We have started doing twice-weekly inspection trips as NOP.
-
Also on Tuesday 11/2 is a large K-8 school group. Extra help showing the kids around would be appreciated.

Also on Tuesday 11/2 is a large K-8 school group.
What a joy to have these kids visit today. They were all so happy and well-behaved. The younger ones in the open car sang very loudly the whole way back from ToM to SS.
-
I have to agree with Ben- what a pleasure. We should make sure the school knows how much our crew enjoyed their visit.

From what I could see, the kids were all extremely eager to learn about things at the museum. And some of them were talking about attending previous events and how much fun they have had. So it is always nice to over hear different things about the smiles and joys we bring to local families, as well as the outsiders of course.
So many smiles today, and so many thank you’d. It was amazing to see and hear how the museum adapts for different school and educational groups.

Thanks for the photos, Mike. Great job by all involved.
-
Mike, I'm a little confused. Are the buried conduits between the electrical house and everywhere else now fully connected?
Thanks.
Bob
-
The conduits are all in. They run fron the electrical building to the shop, the house, the Engine house and the car barn, with spare conduit run between the electrical building, house, shop and a distribution box buried near the engine house. Ready for wires..
-
Great photos, Mike. I'm looking forward to seeing it in person tomorrow.

Mike, that's terrific news about the buried conduit. Running wire should be relatively easy compared to digging and burrowing.
Can't wait to see the next steps until all of our buildings have reliable electricity (and communications)!!!

Brendan and Stewart are gone this weekend, so Enginehouse is probably out.
I may be there Friday working inside on the Kubota. Change the oil and retorque the head bolts. Then start organizing the garage to make room to work on the dozer and loader in there.
-
Retorqued the headbolts on the Kubota today. Also, our dozer was retrireved from TOM and returned to Sheepscot. Dwight helped me remove the mud, part of getting it ready to go in the garage for undercarriage work.

-
Glad to hear there was someone up there to work with you, Mike. So, what needs to be done to Casey?
Jeff S.
-
Casey needs an undercarriage rebuild, from the Casey thread:
It has been a few years, but time to move this thread up to the top. Casey has been toiling away since its arrival with only some minor repairs. In order to continue using the machine, we need to invest in its future. We are doing that this year.
The most wear items on a dozer is the blade and under carriage. While the track pads are ok, the chains they bolt to are worn out. The bushings are gone around the pins and there is sideward play in the chain allowing it to fall off easily. I had been passively looking for new chains but kept coming up empty. That is until I was handed a magazine that had used equipment in it. There was a parts broker that had an ad that was in NH I contacted, and found us what is possibly the last 2 chains in the country. They arrived at my work yesterday.
We plan on replacing the bottom rollers, and he is getting a price for me for those.
Some may ask why repair instead of replace. Simple. This dozer fits our equipment car, and can be put almost anywhere along the railroad. Plus replacing it with something similar would be expensive. Money better spent on other projects or equipment.
https://forum.wwfry.org/index.php/topic,2519.30.html
There is a photo of the new track chains, on a pallet, at that thread link.
-
Work done on Saturday Nov 27:
* Coach 9: Alan was working on journal boxes.
* Boxcar 56: Marcel finished the south wall of the boxcar, and started to work on attaching the grab irons.
* Vehicles: I think Mike was working on vehicle repairs
* Computer: I fought with the office computer all day, and the computer won.
* Train ops: I think the trains were full.
-
Here are a few pictures from today. I was in the shop several times and forgot to take any photos. Journal boxes look great, and Cody was busy flat filing something on one of them while Alan used an end mill on others.
Marcel and Jay completed the siding on the south end of the car and were working on the North East corner.
Trains? Yes, we had trains, with the proper seasonal flavoring sprinkled on the ground.
