Thanks for plugging and supporting the campaign, Ed.

For those of you who are interested, the current total stands at nearly £4,500. There may be more than eight months to raise the remainder, but that means we have to raise an average of around £100 per day.

I am planning a number of online presentations to give people a better idea of what SLIPs entails and what the completed film may look like. But in the meantime, please give what you can.

Thank you

Hiking Boots for Different Hiking Styles

Diving into hiking for the first time, you may feel confused because of the variety of hiking boots styles.

There are reasons manufacturers put out so many Best Rated Hiking Boots (https://www.imdb.com/user/ur128562306/) for customer selection, mainly for different hiking styles. Each of them will require some characteristics that will be more suitable. But what are they? Let's find out below.

Different hiking styles

You should always choose a pair of hiking boots based on how much load you're going to carry along and which terrain you're going through. And when possible, opt for the lightest model you can have. This is because each pound added will take its toll on your feet as you must spend more energy expenditure.

To give you an example, if you want to backpack on a light trip in the weekends without going off the trails, then off-trail boots will be overkill and even cause more troubles along the way.

Trails

This is the most popular style within the hiking community, suitable for both beginners and experienced enthusiasts. Try to research your trail beforehand. If it's well-kept and you won't carry a lot, then the mid-cut or low-cut boots are great choices.

They often have multiple seams, due to the combination of split-leather or fabric-leather construction. So they may not be great in terms of waterproofing unless there is a breathable waterproof liner inside. If this is not the case, you should help yourself by buying a pair of Gore-Tex socks.

Compared to typical walking or running shoes, trail shoes offer better traction, more stability, and stiffer soles. But many people feel unstable while wearing them on rocky or slippery terrain or under heavy loads. To avoid those trail detritus, consider ankle gaiters, especially low-cut ones.

Rough Trail

If you like aggressive day hiking or light backpacking trips, then you should have a look at those ankle-high boots.

They are usually made from split-grain leather or a fabric-leather combination. Some models offer breathable waterproof liners. Some pairs, well-ventilated and porous, are intended for hot desert hiking.

With half-length shanks or tapered plastic midsoles, this kind of boots has a high level of rigidity, protecting your feet from stony trails. But it does not mean they do not have great flex at all. In fact, this is a great thing about them, making your feet's balls more comfortable.

Some serious hikers, who love extended backpacking trips, rate those lightweight hiking boots highly. So when you want to step up your game and dream of rougher trails, you know your choice here.

Off-trail

This is when you have no choice besides some goat paths along with alder tangles and talus.

Finding yourself in this situation, you will be satisfied with a pair of off-trail boots, which can provide great sole stability, good above-ankle support, and full-grain leather material.

Those boots bring a high level of protection for your feet. You will see its effectiveness on long trips with heavy loads. Your feet's balls will feel comfortable as they boots flex pretty well. This is perfect for shorter strides, which you use on tough terrain with a heavy backpack.

But keep in mind that off-trail boots have a long break-in time.

You will need to spend a lot of time on hiking trails until the heel cup and sole soften. Manufacturers understand the environment off-trail boots the wearers must go through. That's why they add superior durability and waterproofing to them, thanks to the minimal seams and all-leather design.

You may think that off-trail boots are always heavy. This may be in the past, but thanks to recent sole and midsole improvements, you can get a surprisingly lightweight pair from any stores.

Conclusion

We know that there are also many other hiking styles, such as mountaineering or technical scrambling, but in this article are the most common ones.

Understanding your paths ahead is the first step when finding a great pair of best quality hiking boots since they either support or bring a lot of troubles.
