Title: Visiting the WW&F from the UK
Post by: Phil Ashworth on May 04, 2025, 02:48:09 AM
Hi,

I’ve been following your progress from several thousand miles away for many years.

I’m a railway enthusiast from the UK and will be in Maine around the weekend of the 28/29 June 25. I’m an experienced hand, volunteer here and steam driver (engineer!)

What’s the best way and day to visit the railway to get the best experience?

Hi Phil,

Trains will be running on Saturday, June 28, under the "Ride the Rails to Hike the Trails" brand. Advance booking is recommended: https://wwfry.org/all-activities/ride-the-rails-to-hike-the-trails/ In addition, you may tour the campus in a self guided fashion, and there will be folks available to answer questions.

Sundays are usually quiet; the museum is officially closed but you might find someone working in the shop.

Weekdays find a variety of volunteers at work. If you plan to be around on a weekday, send me a PM.

/Ben

Thank you for taking the time… very helpful. Ironically I live close to Topsham in Devon!

Also, the Sheepscot Valley Steam Train will be running that Saturday with departures at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm. No advance purchase necessary. Be sure to introduce yourself to the crews, etc. We're exceptionally friendly and love sharing our RR with fellow preservationists.
