Work done on Saturday Nov 2:

* Tie and Dine: a very good crew for it, ties were replaced, track lined and tamped south of Humason Brook Trestle.
* Engine house: Stewart was building shelving in the "clean" room.
* GMC truck and trailer: Brendan was installing new seats in the truck, and finishing up loading up for a trip south to get the last hopper car (leaving tonight).
* Cub Scouts: did some cleanup, got a train ride.
* XCart: Jason and crew were working on it.
* Wiring: Josh was wiring up the "new" press in the machine shop.  It now squishes things.

Remember to wear your orange.

Work done on Saturday Nov 9:

* Mountain cutting - Mike cut down 4 trees over the course of the day between Fossel crossing (so-called) and Top of Mountain, with a large crew of helpers to limb and toss debris into the chipper.
* Tamping and ballasting - Dan and his crew tamped further north of where we were cutting, then went back after the cutting stopped to ballast it.
* Marcel was manning our table at a train show.
* Board meeting
* I suspect someone was in the machine shop working on something, and that Stewart was painting - but I didn't observe that.

Some photos of today's tree cutting by Pete Moxley.

Also a shout out to Kevin and Whitney who joined our volunteer crews today; both were first time visitors to the WW&F who heard about the event from Facebook.

Anticipated work for Saturday Nov 16:

- There's nothing on the calendar, and some volunteers are off hunting or working elsewhere - so many of the normal crew aren't around.

* Engine house - mainly painting and organizing
* Loco 11/Loco 9/machine shop work

It would be a great day for track work or removing overgrowth from the right of way, if anyone cared to lead an effort for that.

This is just out of curiosity but my mind has wandered. I don't know how you all feel about this but if it's possible I would like to put up a temporary Christmas tree next to Sheepscot station that would remain there for the weekends of Victorian Christmas. The tree would likely just be decorated with lights to keep it simple. If this is something that is doable I'll most likely devote part of Saturday looking for one.

Steve gave me the idea of looking for a tree on our property so that's what I'll do first before resulting in looking at getting one from a tree farm.

That's a GREAT idea, Dan! Hope I can make it up to see it. ;)

That's thinking outside the box, Dan. Great idea.

I think we should plant one there. A permanent fixture..

I love Mike's idea.  Is there someone who can get a decent sized tree dug/balled that we can plant outside the station?  I'd throw in a few bucks to help that happen.  Anyone else ???

I second that. Are there any Christmas tree farms in the area that sell live trees?

Who is going to decorate it 10 years on, after it becomes 20 feet tall?

How about a surplus bucket truck fitted with high-rail gear for two foot gage, and a cup holder?

Check with Brendan before anything happens with a tree.  He will be setting the flagpole up in the lawn somewhere near the depot - between the station and Cross Road.

Ed was working on setting up Christmas and Sleigh tickets

And tickets for Victorian Christmas (and Steam & Sleighs) are now on sale, using a new-to-us ticketing platform. This required an extensive overhaul to the website and much testing, etc. (And this is just the beginning of the process to move to a new web host and ticketing partner.)
Tickets are now available at: https://wwfry.org/all-activities/

I did not see the tree, although I was told there was one.  Kind of like Jason's duck.

I haven’t seen this “tree,” but there was most definitely a duck..

To that I will attest. You cannot make stuff like that up and look like he did upon crawling back up onto the Sammis grade.

So, you're saying if Dan shows up looking like he fought a grisly and covered in evergreen needles ... :D

Work done on Sunday, November 17th:

* Plumbing vacuum hoses on Caboose 320 and Coach 3. 320 has most of the hoses installed, with clamps/wires securing them together and one coat of flex seal over all the joints in the plumbing. 3 has the hoses installed, clamped/wired but no flex seal.

The track work was at Humison but Bryce and I finished most of it on Tuesday. I would still like to ballast the track that we tamped, so if a small crew would like to help with that then that would be appreciated. I also have to switch cars around in order to prepare for Victorian Christmas and the winter shutdown. As well the Victorian Christmas consist has to get decorated at some point.

Will Bill, acting as "Solari Man" be providing appropriate sound effects? Here's a sample for those unfamiliar with these wonderful devices.

I remember 30th street station in Philadelphia had one. Fascinating to watch! I think it replaced a chalk board!
What sort of urgent and changing messages will be displayed at the rest rooms?

I use it tongue-in-cheek.  The board by the restrooms holds our schedules for the upcoming months, and even though it looks like a Solari board, it's one where letters are stuck in felt slots.  So to move a line up is one character at a time.

In other words, it's really a Slow-lari board  :o

It's an armstrong turntable message board.

Thanks for the information. I thought perhaps the availability status of the new changing table would be good information. A solari board would free up precious labor by not requiring a clerk for that duty.

They are still made.  I found a small one, if anyone would care to donate one.  See https://shop.vestaboard.com/products/vestaboard-white (https://shop.vestaboard.com/products/vestaboard-white).
