(If only it was true :-\)
Unknown to many, someone bought the winning Mega Millions ticket for the WW&F. Upon hearing the news Dave gathered the BOD and secured the votes to immediately hire real estate specialists and attorneys to help with the huge task of re-obtaining original ROW's not currently held by the museum or its associates.
Jason is scrambling to find personnel to hire full-time as the board has committed to rebuilding the entire line as well as a whole new fleet or locomotives and rolling stock. Mike Fox has been appointed Construction Manager for the expansion of the line and is already gathering the required personnel and contacts to get the required Environmental and Construction permits in place for a 2024 kickoff of new construction. Steve P. has already made contact and has set up meetings with Wiscasset town officials to obtain land from the town in order to build a new station for the WW&F on the site of the old Maine Central Wiscasset station.
Stay tuned folks as things are going to move rapidly. If you are interested in a full time position, please leave a message on the museum's voicemail and the appropriate person shall contact you shortly. For the volunteers, the BOD has directed to expand the work-weekends to four per year due to amount of work that will be available. Dates have yet to be established.

Actually, according to his Facebook post this morning, Mike Fox was one of the winners of the Jackpot!
Unfortunately, unless we're building a Subway (sub), $5 isn't going to get us to Wiscasset.
-
though a Subway shop on the WW&F Alna Campus would be nice, helpful for families as well. ;D
-
Would Fred be making the subs? 8)

Instead of "Subway Subs", I think "Fred's Subs" would do just fine! 8)
Keep this in mind ....
To get started, a Subway franchise costs $15,000 for the franchise fee (in the USA and Canada). The total investment is estimated between $116,000-$263,000 in the USA and $102,000-$234,000 in Canada. Subway franchisees pay 12.5% every week (8% royalties, 4.5% advertising). Total Investment $105,800 - $393,600.

:o ::)

Not to debate the quality of subs but "Jersey Mike's" has better subs and franchise deals. But when I'm on the go, I can always count on a good Wawa sub. (Not available in New England - yet !)
-
I agree with John........WAWA rules!
But at least Jersey Mike's isn't a bad next choice.
-
The age-old sandwich debate! Currently Jersey Mike's is better, by virtue of that old adage, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." We have a Jersey Mike's in Brunswick (and soon one in Topsham, too!) Whereas we currently have no Wawa within reasonable driving distance.
Both better than Sheetz, anyway...

i do like Jersey Mike's better, though I can't say anything on Wawa's. I've haven't been to one yet. Also the Subway joke was meant in jest

Too late..spent all my winnings already
-
Mike,
Once you get a Wawa you'll never go back to Duncan Donuts ....... Better than Starbucks coffee and a lot cheaper.

I can't believe I am contemplating splitting a discussion thread in "Whimsical Weirdness and Foolery" due to MASSIVE topic drift from winning the MegaMillions to who makes the best sub.
-
Well I will not debate who's is better - that is personal taste.
Jersey Mikes started at the Shore the same time & next town over from where we spent
vacation in 50's -- never got there though.
Here in MN J.M. cost more and does not have the volume of filling as Subway.
J.M cuts their meat in front of you though.
Our coffee preference is Ruby's Roost in Victoria,MN- the BEST bake goods and friendliest people.
Problem is there is only 1 in MN and 1 in Spearfish SD. (not a franchise).
I too have won the lottery - but never as much as Mike :D
-
Readers note to Moderator:
Decisions, decisions .......................... ;D ;D ;D
-
According to the news, someone in Maine won the Megamillions.

I can't believe it's not butter...

That's Dynamite! I keep supplies for making Grinders, Wieners, and Coffee Milk in a special Cabinet.
How's THAT for topic drift?

I grew up in southeastern Mass. (Edaville land). There it was subs, hot dogs and (yes) coffee milk. We always had a bottle of coffee syrup in the house. Eclipse, I think, but it might have been Autocrat.
And, BTW, it was soda, not tonic.
-
Also, BTW, they are hoagies in Wawa land...
-
Also, BTW, whats up with some of you that prefer to buy prepared food from a GAS STATION?!?!? :o 8)

I miss coffee milk, since I am diabetic its hard to find a low sugar version :'(

Graham, I can only speak for myself. While it's not my first choice, its the convivence that works for me. Gas up my car and my belly. :). However I prefer an actual sandwich shop over that anytime.
-
Graham,
Wawa started off as a deli, farm stand, and dairy. They combined and created the mini-stores similar to 7-11. Gas pumps were added much later in it's corporate existance. Corporate HQ is in (you guessed it) Wawa, PA.

This is a marvellous thread. In reality, if the dream of untold riches were to come true, it would destroy the WW&F as we know it, today. It is the struggle that makes the organisation the success that it is. I dare say everyone is aware of that.
However, I am greatly stimulated by the brilliant notion of obtaining land from the town in order to build a new station for the WW&F on the site of the old Maine Central Wiscasset station!
I imagine that there must be land that would need to be secured, along the way, for that idea to bear fruit. How much land, in fact?
-
All of the ROW in Wiscasset (except for one small parcel) would need to be acquired.
-
We could do with a WW&F variation of Exmoor Associates in the UK. I don't exactly know how that would work from a legal perspective, but the idea is interesting.
-
Seem like a more practical route is to build a bit more track across Hwy 218, then do an intermodal transfer to the SS Wiscassett 8) running on the Sheepscot River to make our entrance into Wiscasset proper. Looks like that could be done at one of the river curves:

I think double tracking is the way to go.
-
Anything to get from somewhere to somewhere!

I would also add coffee cabinets. I had a definite preference for Eclipse syrup. Last fall I went to the Star Diner in Taunton and got a coffee milk. Unfortunately I think they used Autocrat which is weak and sweet. Gotta have that good strong coffee flavor.

Digging a little further, it was definitely Eclipse we had growing up. I understand Autocrat bought out Eclipse a number of years ago. As a young adult I learned about the Rhode Island term cabinet for coffee milkshakes. Sorry I didn't pick up Ed's Cabinet reference on the 15th.
Now let's talk about (South Shore) bar pizza. Growing up, I thought this was the pizza everyone enjoyed. Still enjoy it periodically during work events at the Amvets and Lynwood Cafe in Randolph, and Town Spa in Stoughton.
-
I actually grew up near the Eclipse factory. They made different flavors but coffee was the biggest seller.

Taylor Hicks did a program "State Plate" (2016-2018) where they explored
each state's iconic food.
I remember RI Coffee Cabinet and MA Bar Pizza as being featured.
