This listing just popped up within the last few days:
https://www.raveis.com/raveis/1460739/291federalstreet_wiscasset_me (https://www.raveis.com/raveis/1460739/291federalstreet_wiscasset_me)
It includes a small piece of the WW&F ROW in Wiscasset, about 100' from the river bank.
Anyone looking to relocate to be within 10 mins of the WW&F, and help secure a piece of the ROW needed (should we ever wish to expand southward) should act quickly - the larger lot just to the north sold within 10 days.

In the property narrative the realtor posted at that link, after summarizing the property features comes this bit ....
... Just a 3 minute drive into Wiscasset Village gives you access to retail shopping, waterfront dining, a lovely wine and cheese shop, public waterfront access with boat launch too.
"Lovely wine and cheese shop"??
And absolutely no mention of the "lovely" WW&F nearby. ::) :)

Nor any mention of the traffic issues in summer.

"The railroad comes through the middle of the house" - a popular song in the early 50s.

Those houses are just north of this one :-)

Wish I'd hurry up and hit the lottery...

There is nothing to say that the museum can't approach the current owner and purchase an easement to cover the ROW.

Correct - except that an extension to Wiscasset is not on the (current) museum plans, but does remain the ultimate goal (as envisioned by founder, Harry Percival.) Any initiative to purchase property (or easements) at this time would be a member-driven effort by interested individuals. At least one member is actively looking to purchase something in Wiscasset or Alna that could be used strategically in the long term. (That member, for a variety of reasons, is not pursuing this particular property.)

As someone who sought out and purchased land abutting the WW&F right-of-way, I will say for anyone either looking to relocate to the area, have a second home in the area or simply make an investment that ultimately also benefits the museum and railway you love, this is a wonderful way to contribute to the railway if your considering it in your own long term plans.
Similarly, several members could potentially come together, purchase a property, parcel our the R-o-w to the railway, then sell the property afterward, or keep it for their own use.

Here's a wild suggestion from left field. Could the museum buy the lot and run the house as a airbnb or a bed and breakfast. It would secure the row for the museum, bring in revenue and also serve as a place to house workers during work weekends.

Anyone interested in forming a LLC (limited liability company), to buy the property and turn it into a Rental for WW&F members?

Price of 291 Federal Street, Wiscasset, has now dropped to $277,500.

If I sold my house in RI I could afford that.........
