Thanks for posting this, Mike. It helps those of us who weren't able to be around this summer or fall, even though we may have walked the Mountain several times. I, for one, am really looking forward to next spring when I can take it all in in person!
-
Thanks for the promised pictorial of updated Mountain Extension work, a huge amount.
Its almost the home stretch, with the ninth inning getting closer. ;)
-
Nice presentation, Mike! Really puts things in perspective.
The transformation is astounding!

I have a video taken on the FWW Monday afternoon as Johnathon and I took the work train down to EOT to pick up the tools. It goes from Judy's crossing to the current EOT. It is 4:20 minutes long. It stars Jason and a very happy young member. She was getting a ride on his shoulders up the ROW as he was looking at the final track alignment.
Highlights are the Slide at 1:50, the Pinch Point at 2:30 and our fearless leader with her transport at 2:45. The new EOT is at 4:20 with only the sawmill curve to get around to be able to see the Bridge.
It is posted on the WW&F YouTube page. Direct link is:

Truly remarkable. To me, two of the best memories are 1) the hideous to navigate 12 inch pathway at the slide location, especially when icy; and 2) the great fun we all had last winter in the snow clearing the ROW and burning the tree rubbish...
-
Thanks Bill for sharing that video. It's great!

Mike and Bill,
Thanks for the time progression photos and the video.

Does anyone have the Lat Lon of the end of track. I’d like to get the pin on Google Earth as close as possible. Thanks.
-
Hey Linc, to the best of my ability, I would say the current end of track is close to here. My pin is probably 200' to the north of it, but its the best I can do.

Ladies and Gentlemen: Thank you for all the prodigious work over the past year especially and continually since the 1990's. Barb and I are truly excited to see the daily and weekly progress reports on the various projects. Thanks much for the before and after pictures and the continual word and pictorial updates. We visited with the help of our daughter and her family this past August. Rode the train I believe on Friday August 17th and thoroughly enjoyed conversation with James Patten and others plus other riders. The gift shop ladies were great. Thanks again from away. Hope to make it back next year. Barb & Gary Kraske

Mike,
Thank you for another great series of pictures! One thing I did notice, was the large amount of logs and brush next to the tracks. Will that be a fire danger from the steam locomotives? Do you plan to clear some of it out of there? Or just wait for it to rot out?
Perhaps the logs can be sold as fire wood.

Tedster...Mike Fox posted he's running a trunk and branch cleanup crew there on Saturday, October 27th, including chainsaws, tree chippers...hauling big stuff via flatcar back to Sheepscot.

A few location 1 photos from July 29th, 2017.
Ichabod and the Kubota were on site for the right-of-way repair work.

Mike had already completed much of the excavation to install a new culvert. He had left a temporary culvert in place. Note a portion of the original culvert still remains in place in this photo.
Mike has fun wrestling the old culvert out of the way as Bryce looks on. One forgets how deep the excavation was here until seeing this photo.

End of the day, so Mike has put the temporary culvert back in place.

Delivery of 48" culvert to Top of Mountain July 1st, 2017. Starting in late June four sections of 48" culvert were delivered to Top of the Mountain. Here a crew is seen unloaded one section. Two sections would be used later in the summer at location 1.

Is there a "time window" in which this latest excavations needs to be completed?
Jeff S.
-
Jeff, we have 2 years from the approval date for the DEP, as well as a 2 year on the Shoreland Zone permit through the town. The Pinch Point where the wall is and the Bridge site are the only critical ones to complete, because we are in the Shoreland Zone. That runs out around December of 2019. Everything else can easily be extended if needed.

Does anyone have the Lat Lon of the end of track. I’d like to get the pin on Google Earth as close as possible. Thanks.
I took two measurements with a GPS on 10/20/18. The location the of end of serviceable track (one rail staggered doesn't count) is:
44.10073506 N, 69.62011440 W
Note that a handheld GPS is only accurate to within 50-100 ft. The above coordinates are an average between two readings that are about 20 ft apart. They also agree with prior measurements before the track was completed.
