A rare lubricator has come up for sale. Jason will (hopefully) fill in the details. It would be ideal for #9 and/or any of our locomotives.
The cost is $1000.00. A photo of the lubricator is attached.
I have pledged $100 towards its purchase. Who is with me?
(Please do not consider this an appeal in lieu of the annual fund drive - that remains our main source of income for capital projects.)

Ed, Good for you! I will scrape together and find another $100 to go with yours.

Is this lubricator to replace or supplement the one currently on No. 9?
-
This is a multi-shot drip feed lubricator which would be used for the eccentrics. In all honesty it's a luxury, and not something the engine would (likely) have had when originally in service. For some time I've been concerned with getting proper lubrication to no 10's eccentrics- due to the dirty environment gunking up the waste in the eccentric strap oil holes, and variability with the crews. I've thought of using an oiler for years, and thought using a period-correct oiler would be the right thing to do. Many years ago, after reaching this conclusion, I came across one of the type Ed has mentioned- and thought it was perfect. Never saw one available though.
This is the reason for the pledge call- no 9 (or 10) doesn't NEED it- it is a luxury. I was planning on asking the board to fund it- as I consider it beyond the scope of my budget to make no 9 run (or maintain either of them). Ed thought of and pledged the first amount. I'll pledge $100 too.
I may also ask the board to consider this an extension of this year's fund drive, so oiler funders get counted on the fund drive.
Trying to offer 'full disclosure' here!
See ya

We are in negotiations with the seller of the item. Unfortunately, he can't "hold" it for us, and he is unable to discount/donate it. So, time is of the essence if we want to get this "luxury" item for the WW&F. Who else is in? (Email Jason or me if you wish to remain anonymous.)
If anyone wants to see the ad, it's at:

Count me in for $100.

Oh darn! I used to have one of those on a shaper, but it went with the shaper when I sold it.
I do have a couple of extra mechanical lubricators of various styles and feeds, so if you ever need a mechanical I might be able to help with that.
-
Paypal works for getting the money in quickly - however at $100 we lose about $2.50 to a fee. FYI. So far one person has donated to this via PayPal.
-
Count me in for another $100.
My check's in the mail.
-
I'm good for $100. Also. How do we get you the cash quickly?
-
There's PayPal - and I seem to recall a way someone donating via PayPal can pay the fee that we would other otherwise pay.
There's credit card - Cindy or Linda would need to set a date/time to for people to call in with their card number - or wait until Saturday.
-
I will gladly cover all fees...
-
I'll also pledge $100. This would be a smart addition to what has been an astounding restoration of #9.
-
Hi All,
WOW, between those who have pledged above and a few private messages, we have pledged $900 in less than 12 hours! Who will be the last one* to put us over the top?
(*Actually a private donor has committed to be the "last one" so we need someone to fill slot #9.)

I was afraid to mention this when I saw it
But I'm in for $100
-
Now there's 2 PayPal donors.
-
What address for PayPal?
-
Hi Ken -
We have received all the pledges we need. The lubricator is purchased and will be shipped to Sheepscot tomorrow!
Thanks!
-
There's a donate button on the webpage, it points to treasurer@wwfry.org.
-
To the donors - THANK YOU!
We have received PayPal from two of you. The rest can either use PayPal (there's a donate button on the webpage, it points to treasurer@wwfry.org.), call in (Saturday) with a Credit Card or mail a check. I remind everyone NOT to email credit card numbers - email is not a secure medium.
And if anyone else is feeling exceedingly generous, I've been told that Jason would like this for #11...

(It will be a little while before we need it, though.)

The injector is at $750. OBO
If anyone is listening

Jason did some additional research, and it turns out that the injectors used on WW&F #7 were not of the style currently for sale at the above link. So, there will be no effort to coordinate its acquisition for the museum.

Maybe what we need is a "Jason" wish list of items that are/will be needed so that members can keep a eye out for them and alert everyone when something pops up.

New oiler mounted in the cab with the oil lines run.

Very nice! Will the 6th drip feed be used, or will that be a spare?
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Any chance one of the picture takers could take one showing the discharge end of one or more of those lines from the lubricator? I realize that may be a tall order, owing to things in the way such as drivers, frame members, etc. I'm curious as to how the oil gets from the end of a line to, say, the waste pocket on an eccentric strap.
Also wondering whether the oil feed will be during operation, or perhaps just during stops.
-
Just a heads up. To date, we have received 8 of the 10 pledged donations. Just a friendly reminder to those who may have forgotten.
-
A nearly identical lubricator has come up- and we are interested in it for no 10. See new thread..
Jason
-
??? What is the point of these confusing old posts about a part purchased and installed?
-
Paul,
Notice that Jason has posted See New Thread in the message prior to yours.

Sorry, I should have added a link to the new thread:
http://forum.wwfry.org/index.php?topic=2978.0 (http://forum.wwfry.org/index.php?topic=2978.0)
And replying in this thread would be completely appropriate, as it would notify those who participated last time (or took interest in the matter) that we are doing it again.
Honestly, I like this sort of activity where the membership (and our friends and followers) can tangibly participate in the purchase of a specific smaller item. It brings a good deal of satisfaction to see these things in use at the museum, and knowing that you helped find and/or pay for that item.
