Not even sure this is the correct place for this thread but it is steam, it's 2 ft gauge (and maybe a little "weird?")
This strange little steamer was found by Bernie and Hansel at a coal mining museum in Lansford, PA...

Hmm... unless I create a section called "Jason's Nightmares" the Whimsical Weirdness and Foolery section definitely describes this, eh, locomotive?
-
So - the boiler's in the tender?

I believe that if Hansel could have, he would have put it in the car and brought it home. He really liked the thing. Theoretically it could probably be made to run with a thorough rebuilding. Since I have no knowledge of hoist engines, I was fascinated with the way the engine was reversed. There was only one cam per cylinder and reversing was accomplished by a reversing piston which changed the flow of steam to the feed pipes to the cylinders. The coal bin and water supply were in the locomotive part. Someone put a lot of thought into it. Hansel and I had our own version of "Jason's nightmare" comments.

Oh... I got the perfect name for it...
Paint it yellow and call it "Ugly Duckling."
-
With the blue drums, it might have been the prototype for "Thomas".
-
I thought the blue drums were so Quint could tire out the shark...

We're gonna' need a bigger boat! :o

The Lidgerwood Company was well-known for its logging equipment, particularly the large systems of winches, cables and masts that were used to "skid" logs in mountainous areas. It also made hoisting machinery for the mining industry. I suspect this contraption is using an engine from a mining hoist. Interestingly, the company survives today as the Superior-Lidgerwood-Mundy Corporation, manufacturers of marine hoisting equipment.
