Here's a neat video of a British TV show that details the rebuilding of a Simplex gasoline locomotive from World War I. Some very nice shots archival views of World War I trench trains and other cool stuff as well.

Enjoyable program!  It was neat to see a WDLR Simplex Tractor in action again.
