Title: Alna First Response Team
Post by: Steve Smith on February 07, 2015, 09:07:01 PM
Was sorry to read in the Bangor Daily News on line that the Alna first response team is disbanding. This seems to be happening in many small communities now. Very sad.

Yes. It is very sad. It takes a lot of time to maintain an EMT license, or anything associated with it. We are very fortunate that there is a full time Rescue service in Wiscasset.

Will there still be a fire crew to put out fires?

Stewart,

I seem to remember that some of the Alna EMT's also belonged to Alna Volunteer Fire Department, and/or kept some of their equipment there.

I assume they will remain members?  Also, what happens to the equipment that belonged to the Alna Rescue Squad?  Here in Maryland, the equipment of non-profit agencies reverts to the County if the volunteer agency disbands.

Hi Dave,

Yes, our EMT's are members of the AVFD and their equipment is kept at the station.  Here's the situation; one EMT is retiring after over 30 years of service, the second EMT moved to Wiscasset and our third EMT works two jobs in other towns.  AFAIK all remain members of AVFD but are not able to respond as EMT's within town limits.  Some of the equipment will be returned to the county and some may go to Wiscasset since they will continue to provide EMS support to Alna.
