Title: B&SR Tank
Post by: Tom Werb on December 08, 2012, 03:04:16 PM
Saw the photo of the tank from B&SR 14/21 in the newsletter.
I assume it came from MNG; what's the plans for it?

It was purchased from MNGM and is a long range project but definitely on the radar.
It will be repaired as historically as possible and mated to a new flat car.
This project is in line with several others.

I see. What will the new tank car be lettered to what historical purpose? Also will it be used as a water car for the steam engines?  :)

Wasn't the tank car originally lettered SOCONY (Standard Oil Company of New York) ?  That later became known as MOBIL gasoline.

Yes Richard. This tank was originally on flat car 21 on the B&SR. Later put on 14 because 21 had become unusable.

Matthew, the original plan was to build a car for it, resembling the original car for it. Then use it for fire protection. This is a very low priority project.
