On Wednesday the 4th, the Museum has a busy day.

* We'll be in the Wiscasset parade, which I think starts around 10.
* At 11:30 Mystic Valley Railway Society will be showing up, having lunch, and taking a train ride.  The charter leaves at noon and should be back at 1.
* Around 5, we'll have our ribbon cutting in Wiscasset, officially opening up Car 65 to the public.
* Fireworks at dusk to celebrate.

Friday the thirteenth of July is the start of grass cutting and will continue for at least the next seven Fridays. If the weather doesn't permit grass cutting we'll find something to do inside. Most Mondays there is someone at the museum also.

Work done on July 4:

* The Model A truck was in the Wiscasset Parade.  The theme was "Small Town Traditions", so our theme was the Town Meeting.
* The Mystic Valley Railway Society arrived at 11:30, had lunch, and the train departed at 12:15, had a run-by at Alna Center, and returned to Sheepscot at 1:15.
* After that Mike and I attempted mowing using the mower car.  We almost got to Alna Center northbound when some grass got stuck in the bar and the bar broke.
* At 5:05 was the Car 65 ribbon cutting.

Anticipated work for weekend of July 7:

* ROW mowing - see Fred
* Car 65 - oh wait, that's done
* Loco 9 - see Jason
* After the regular trains stop running there's a wedding.  The wedding will be in the field at AC.

I mentioned in the "stories" thread that a bunch of us stayed on the pier talking about new projects after the milk car dedication. One idea is to build a wood shed in Sheepscot Yard to protect #10's firewood.  The shed would allow dry storage of the outside firewood.  It would also free up space in bay 1 (where wood has been kept), making more room around the locomotive.  

Fred said that he had some spare lumber to donate so today, he and Leon brought 2X4's, etc. for the shed.  If we have enough material, construction can start this weekend.  Jason, Zack and Steve would be the people to check with if you'd like to help with the project.

Work done on Saturday July 7:

* Fred, Zack, and others did some work on the restroom project.
* The wedding attendees started arriving before 4.  The first wedding trip left around 5.  There had to be multiple trips.  The bride had decorated Coach 3 on Friday, after the last train pulled in some maids jumped on and started decorating.

It was a hot and humid afternoon.  But sunny, which was good for the wedding.  Fortunately there was a bit of a seabreeze.

Saturday we had about 80 non-wedding visitors through the day.  As James noted we had the first wedding extra at 5, taking 62 guests to AC.  One more train took the rest, about 10.  The train stayed at AC until around 8.  Railcar 4 followed the second wedding train and was spotted on the siding just north of the crossing.  The bridesmaids used AC station to prepare the bride for the wedding.  The train stayed with coach 3's north platform at the station until the ceremony was complete.  When the ship's captain pronounced the couple, Charity and Les, husband and wife #10 gave them a whistle salute.  The rest of the crew applaued, standing on coach 3's platform.  As the reception got underway the consist of coach 8 and 3 was pushed north, past the crossing.  The coaches were then tied down and engine 10 drifted south to clear the crossing.  

A number of guests came over to look at the locomotive and railcar and talk to the crew.  The railcar's first trip south was around 6:45.  Six more trips were run, taking guests back to Sheepscot.  The steam train took most of the guests back at 8:15 and the last railcar trip was at 9:00.  The evening train crew was Bob L. running and Roger firing.  John M. was in charge of the train and Steve Z. was Brakeman and liason with the wedding party.

Sunday was a bit quieter with about 70 passengers riding the train and railcar.  Fred and I built the base frame to the new wood shed and cleaned up the shop a little.  Jason cleaned up the north end of bay one.  Lunch was make your own sandwich with wedding cake for desert.

Friday is the first of many fridays for cutting grass. Theses 2.7 miles of it. There's plenty to do at the museum now.

Kielbasa Dave and I plan to be up Saturday to help a little with brush cutting. 

Hope to be up on a Friday & Saturday sometime in August to do more brush cutting then.

Work done on weekend of July 14.  Weather was very hot and quite humid.

* On Friday Steve Z, Fred, and Gordon C did some weed whacking.
* Saturday, Fred, Dave B, Bill R, and Mike weed whacked at Trask Crossing, only before the first train.
* We finally got the permit for restroom building and Zack went right to work putting in piping.
* Mike worked on the mower car.

After lunch David B. Bill R. and I not wanting to cut grass any more as it was to hot, decided to remove about a foot of crushed rock about 18 Feet into to the new bathroom foundation so the small backhoe coming next Sat. wouldn't waste it. If you work slow and take plenty of breaks you can get a lot of work done. The fall work weekend will have plenty of work to be done by everyone. If no-one else can find work for you just ask for Fred. We usually cut grass until the first snow.

Today Steve Z. and I did some grass cutting at Alna Center and Zack was there early for the plumbing inspector and everything is a go for continued work on the ground work for the new bathrooms.

Leon W., Dright W., and I cut more grass by Alna Center today. Some cutting was done on the sides of the road and the land we own West of Alna Center Station. Both sides are cut down to the yard limit sign. We are going to concentrate on the Southern half of the railroad this year and go North if we have time. We are going to have to cut the walking trail at Head Tide as that was part of our agreement with the people who gave us the easement across their land. We also have signs at both ends of the trail designating it as a walking trail.

Today, Steve Z. and I worked south from Alna Center and Leon W. and Dright W. worked North.  We'll be working on the restroom undergroung piping tomorrow. Busy day planned.

Walked the Head Tide section this afternoon after sorting lag screws for a couple hours, durring my short but annual visit from AZ.  The path needs some cutting it's about a foot high, one of the small bridges has some broken boards, I think it was the second one going North.  I left my hat somewhere near the bin near #9, I'll stop buy and get it on my way to the airport on Sunday.

Today at the WW&F:

* A local contractor that Steve Z knows stopped by with his excavator and volunteered his time by digging out a trench for water and electrical conduits for the restroom.  A bunch of people worked on restoring the stone base over the piping.
* Mike and I mowed using the mower car from Alna Center to Sheepscot.  Mike had replaced the blade with a new blade.
* #9: Marcel worked on the cab.
* John M mowed south of AC.

Anticipated work for weekend of July 28:

* Mowing, on Friday and Saturday (and Sunday if enough people).
* Restrooms.  There may still be piping to put in, but if not the stone needs to be leveled out.  We have insulation and rebar to start putting down.

Not good for cutting grass this weekend, maybe some clean up in the bays will be done. B.L.T.'s Sat. Cole slaw and potato salad Hot dogs also.

Leon W. cut grass Wed and Thurs from Trask Rd. South to the trestle. To wet today to cut grass. Cleaned up trash this morning, took it to transfer station then went to the lumber co. to pick up wire ties for the re bar. Cooked 5 lbs bacon for tomorrow then went North and cut Two trees across the track from wind damage then dug trench in the crushed rock to bury conduit. That kept Steve Z. and myself busy.

Work done on Saturday the 28th:

* Considerable work on the restroom.  There had been a delivery of stone this week, this was all put on the pad, bringing it up so that there would be a certain depth of concrete.  On top of the stone was put styrofoam, then an occasional brick followed by rebar.  About half of the pad got the styrofoam and rebar, the rest is waiting for another stone delivery this week.

A little (n.g.) bird told me that there were 99 passengers today.  Not sure how the gift shop did.

Hi folks.

Does the back of the station and gift shop still need scraping and painting?  The kids and I said we'd come up and do that, but the first chance we'll have is on Aug 11 which is the picnic.  Is that okay?  Also, do you have the scrapers, primer, etc?

The back of the freight shed still does need scraping and painting.  Watch out for wasps, though.  Plenty of scrapers to go around.
