Car shop extension
« on: October 18, 2008, 08:39:52 PM »
As noted in other messages, the shop extension east & west walls were framed up during the work weekend.

2x6's were put at the top of the walls today.  Steel I-beams also arrived and had holes drilled.  The lumber got all moved around to make way for the I-beams.

James, Thanks for the update.  Here's a bit more on what happens next -  Four 8X8's will be set.  Two go in the front (south end) wall between doors 1-2 and 2-3 and the other two go in back against the existing building.   The I beams will be set on these supports.  Once the steel is in place the second floor can be built.  Roof construction will be done from the second floor platform.

James , Stewart :  Would be great to see a picture or two, when you folks install the two steel I-beams.   Thanks, Fred Kuhns

Thanks to a nice donation (free transportation), the steel I beams were delivered to Sheepscot.  The steel was drilled and the wooden 8X8 supports set up.  Another donation (use of a boom truck for a day) got the steel and floor stringers up in short time.  The next step will be putting down the ply wood for the second floor.  The plywood should be delivered in a few days.  If the snow holds off and we have enough crew we can get the roof timbers and sheathing on in the next couple of weeks.

Pictures of the end of the day will be forthcoming when I get the time to copy the picture files to the website.

It looks like the links are bad (both here and on the main web page.) I have let James know.

I fixed James' links. (FYG [for you geeks], file names on the Internet are case sensitive.)

IIRC it was just 3 weeks ago that the scratch building 'kit' arrived for the work weekend.
Amazing, and really great that all of the rolling stock will be under cover this winter.

I don't know about this winter...Zack only wants to get the roof up, he figures there won't be time to board up the walls.  If he does and we can take down the plywood over the old doors, Bays 2 and 3 still need their tracks jacked up 2-3 inches to meet up with the track from the concrete.  Seems the west side of the building/track sunk that much over time.

Well James at least we are moving in the right direction.  The more that gets done the closer we will be to the time when we can move more of the rolling stock under cover and away from the affects of mother nature.
