Well at least we do know that building a dual gauge crossing can be done at least.

There was a dual gauge crossing in place on the ground here in Maine very recently.  It may still be in place.  Biddeford Station (aka Great Northern Narrow Gauge) was supposed to be the northern terminus of the Seashore Trolley ride at one time, and they were going to have a two foot gauge loop around the property.  They had a crossing like that for the yard tracks, and probably would have needed several more.

Unfortuately Seashore decided not to continue their expansion and the Biddeford Station property has been sold.

When last at Biddeford Station in 2007, the 2' crossing was still in place.

I, too, have dreamed of the WW&F in Wiscasset and have walked the ROW in town.
Staying to the inland side of the ME tracks to Route #1 is definitely doable. Getting to that point may be problematic, to say the least.
A simple joint platform could be erected.

Dream on......

James;
Your post was very timely. Our counsel in our Portland office was in my office today and asked about a narrow gauge railroad or trolley that ran along the coast in York as he had a title issue involving trolley or railroad right of way. I expressed ignorance other than of the seashore Museum running on a former trolley line. Was there a narrow gauge trolley line?

I believe there was a trolley line in York, there may also have been a steam railroad.  Will have to break out my Rail Lines of Northern New England book when I get home (every title office in New England should have one  ;D  )

James;
Thanks. I have Rail Lines of southern New England as I primarilly handle Massachusetts titles. I also carry a secret weapon who's a WW&F Life Member that graciously takes my calls when I have questions on MA railroads.

RE "Steam Railroad" in York:
Lost Railroads of New England (Karr, 2nd Edition) lists this as:
York Harbor and Beach RR
Kittery (Navy Yard) to York Beach, ME
Opened: 1887
Abandoned: 1927
Length: 10 miles
The York Harbor and Beach RR opened this beach line in 1887. Between 1904 and 1913 it operated summers only. It always operated independently, although all of its equipment was provided by the B&M. Passenger service ceased in 1925. When abandonment of the entire railroad came two years later, the initial mile was turned over to the B&M and retained to provide continued access to the navy yard. The remaining track was not removed until 1940.
