Folks, I had a couple of surprises hit me during the holiday but have had to wait until now to fully explain what I have found.  First ,  I have now a second Peter Grey & Son switch lantern.  This one has been through the wars and needs a lot of TLC, what is VERY interesting is that it is unmarked for the railroad which had it but it was in the possession of a family (estate sale) from Saco, ME.
Could this be an original Maine 2 ft. B&SR lantern?  Very hard to tell but if anyone has info on their lanterns I could use the help.

Secondly, at a local auction I came across and bid on a Peter Grey & Son Conductor's Kit.  I have only ever seen one like this and it was in the CA RR museum in Sacramento.  It is a metal case like a lunchbox, and would contain the conductor's red flag, ticket punch, flares, fuzee's, blank Form 4's, pencil, and matches for train lanterns.  The case is in good shape with a non-period flag but I'm sure the local staff will be able to fill out the kit so it can be used by our Conductors on board trains.

So restoration work is commencing and pictures will be forthcoming shortly.  ( I know, I bi#$h about not having pictures and here I am with no pictures - guilty as charged)

Just a quick update.  After some scrounging and a lot of handwork, the first of the "new" Peter Gray & Sons high mast switch lanterns is nearing completion.  Hopefully, by the time of the BOD mtg. on Saturday, I will have the unit test-fired and 99% complete for the board to see.  In addition, I have obtained 2 additional "wrecks" that are most likely to become parts donors.  Wayne L. is helping out in sourcing a local & reasonably priced metal shop to remanufacture lens mounts, shrouds, and other various parts as there is not a secret stash of spare parts out there to be found.

Unfortunately, the Saturday BOD demo is not going to happen.  Family obligations have me on the road so I may have to prepare an article for the newsletter instead.  I will update as soon as I am back home.
