In older times I'm not sure this would make it past the STB because it gives CSX a near monopoly in New England even with CN\CP on the fringes in Maine and Vermont. Wonder what that will do to all the intermodal traffic NS was bringing through northern Mass.

Information has it that N-S, Susquehanna, Gen-Wyo, and CP are going to court/STB to block the acquisition or to at least get some concessions from CSX.

As a follow-up:  I spoke with a person who is in upper management of a local Class 2 railroad and word has it that over 1,000 PanAm and/or shortline customers are filing an industry protest over the proposed CSX takeover of PanAm.  Apparently, some of the customers are some big shakers and movers so there is big money against this merger.
