July 2020 Work Reports

Stephen thanks for this itemized report. I'm happy  about seeing things coming along on every front despite the situation. I can't wait for the reopening.

Work done on Saturday, July 25:

* Ballasting: Two flatcars of ballast were spread where the lift happened this week (the end of the road on the Fossel property), then the third flatcar was emptied at various spots along the grade that needed it, with the remainder put beyond the bridge.
* Water tank: Zack and Stewart cleaned out the inside of the tank, and filled it.
* Gift shop: Stewart did some organizing in the gift shop.
* Concrete delivery: Concrete was poured for the floor of the electrical distribution building, the bottom of the north stairs at the Percival house, and the pavilion foundations.

Brendan and I hustled to build and set forms for the electrical building and the step for the stairs. We finished the second form and the truck pulled in.
Cement showed up just before 9..



And he left the Pavilion an hour later







I gave the step a brushed finish and edged with my edger



Brendan set the anchors for the electrical building while I was headed to AC



I walked in the shop just as Jerry (right) and Carlos were getting the riveter to move.

Creating the pad for the electrical building, IMHO, is a HUGE step forward, and one I've been hoping for at least a couple of years.

Modern electrical distribution is Critical for our growth, and has been underappreciated.  Example: we need power in the expanded carbarn and museum.

Hopefully, we can make building the structure to support this asap.

Tuesday 28 July

*  SS campus parking lot pick up and relocate various materials and equipment.
*  Coach #9 (pending).
*  Coach #3 brake plumbing (pending).


Wednesday 29 July

*  Continue or complete the parking lot work.
*  Coach’s #3 and #9  (pending).
*  Rules Training prep work.
*  SS yard work.

Pending:  Reference to key project personel.

Completed work Tuesday July 28 and Wednesday July 29, 2020.

Tuesday:

*  Parking lot material relocation and clean up starts, large rail pile moved to rear lot.
*  Switching, SRRL coaches moved to main line, flat cars staged on loading ramp.
*  Shop work, various projects to include coach #3 brake plumbing and repair on brake
    wheel staff, work continues on springs for #52.
*  Fire wood moved and stacked, (Fred gets a new piece of rolling stock)
*  Archive work on going.
*  Ground clean up at SS and Alna Center.
*  Painting and spruce up of SS station and gift shop.
*  Locomotive #9 pilot completed
*  Small engine repair on various machines.
* 14 volunteers.

Wednesday:

*  Parking lot work continues which included steering hose break down and repair.
*  Flat car #34 loaded with B&SR machine shop (lathe etc.)
*  Rules Review prep..
*  Coach #3 plumbing continues, brake staff repaired.
*  Coach #9 assembly continues
*  Log splitter repaired.
*  Prep for Annual picnic startes (this has been on going)
*  Gift shop on line sales moving right along includes orders, pack and shipping.
*  Weed whacking around Alna Center
*  Rail Car gets a look over, a few repairs makes a test run to AC.
*  Switching and several SS yard projects done in prep for Rules Review.
*  15 volunteers

Note:  There is continual work being done at various times of the day and evening, from                                                                 
           Saturday through out the week to include dump runs, building repairs, vehicle repairs and finishing             
           little projects that seldom get noticed but helps make our railroad shine.

Add to Wednesday:
* Benches for 118 outdoor/open seating were scraped for painting.

Note:  There is continual work being done at various times of the day and evening, from                                                                 
           Saturday through out the week to include dump runs, building repairs, vehicle repairs and finishing             
           little projects that seldom get noticed but helps make our railroad shine.

And a big shout out and "thank you" to those who do all of this.

There are also countless hours of volunteer projects occurring off-site. This includes everything from various administrative tasks to at-home shop projects. If you have spare time, and want to help, please let us know!

With little reporting recently about new construction, cleanup and upkeep  around WW&F, what a pleasant surprise to read of so many projects receiving attention! 
I would guess the frustration over having so much to do, being stalled by coronavirus, then finding ways to continue needed tasks is motivating "gitting 'er done", railroad-wide.
