Wayne;
"Standard" clocks did use Arabic numerals and they also would have been equipped with Graham dead beat escapements.
Up until the 1970's The Central Railroad of New Jersey still used clocks from the Self Winding Clock Company. There was a master clock in the Elizabethport, NJ dispatcher's office that was synchronized with the clocks at register locations and the interlocking towers. At a specified time each day the clocks would all be electrically wound and synchronized. The clocks were mechanical spring wound clocks but the winding was done electrically. The movements were made primarily by the Seth Thomas Co. with a smaller number having been made by the E. Howard Co.
