I was about to ask what jobs, challenges or opportunities are on the list for the Fall Work Weekend - but I guess these pictures pretty well answer that question.

Glad to see they are not on the flats. I may have a job for them Saturday if they stay empty...

Most will be cut to 5' right in the lot.  Some will stay longer for switch ties.  Once they are cut and sorted some will be loaded for the trip north.

What becomes of remnants that fall short of usable tie length?

Consider this:

The roundhouse floor at Steamtown is made in this way, though not from railroad ties. I have been told it is because the exposed engrain would absorb any oil or grease on the ground and because a wooden floor would not mar the threads of a dropped bolt.

If museum don't need blocking. The ends are put beside the town road for the public to pick up. If we have alot of ends. We some times put a notice is a swap/trade booklet.

Actually, I would recommend some of those "ends" being used for flooring in the shop right now.  Would cut down a little on some of the dust.

Trouble is, it takes a fair amount of prep work to put down wood block floor. All that leveling and rolling and cutting the blocks to uniform thickness, etc., etc. Plus all the wood block floors I've seen are 4 x 4 inches or thereabouts, not 6 x 8.

Wow -- very interesting -- right down to the insta-track.
We want...A SHRUBBERY!  One that looks nice, and not too expensive.

No idle hands in that work!  Excited to get down to business on the WW. Thanks for the very informative encouragement Mike!

It would be interesting to lay the siding and main with two concurrent teams to have a little race... No betting though.  :P

See you there!

It looks like we'll have the following major projects for the work weekend:

* Starting on the car shed.  We'll start digging for the foundation posts next week.  Poles are coming from somewhere, and rafters are on order.
* North end track laying.  We'll probably lay the mainline first, to where the new switch will need to be.  Then while the north switch panel is being delivered we'll work on the siding.  Stone is available to put down but it's not the priority of the weekend.
* Loco 9.

I haven't heard about any minor projects but it would be nice to get some weed whackers going south of Albee's Crossing.
* Also painting the restrooms.

Also there'll be a board meeting on Friday evening - somewhere on the property!
