Mike,  I'll second Steve's message, thanks for the great pictures.  The shop looks super.

Thanks for your comments on the east wall rebuild idea.  The side door will stay where it is so we don't have to re-frame it.  We are going to use 4 new windows on the rest of the wall.  As you said, the spacing may differ if we build off of the old 6X6 uprights.  I think it would be better to keep the window spacing the same all the way back so we will skip the section with the door but measure like there is a window, then install the first window in the next panel.

I think I counted 6 bays yesterday. I can't wait to see the completed project. It will blend nicely with the addition and give it the completed look. I think you are going to have to take a longer vacation this year. There is a lot of bare wood at Sheepscot. Maybe it's time to use a spray gun to paint the bigger sections.

The original part of bay one was built by Harry Percival in 1990, it was the first structure at Sheepscot. Bays two and three were built in 1993-94 with the last piece of siding going on in March of 1994.  Harry researched the colors used by the W&Q on their stations and found that the W&Q used the colors of the Knox & Lincoln Railroad.  He went up to Warren to inspect the Maine Central station which dated from the K&L days.  Underneath the peeling MEC green and gray was the original K&L yellow and buff livery.  He got some paint chips and had paint mixed for the new shop building.  That's why the shop is painted in the yellow and buff livery, it matches the original Wiscasset shop colors which matched the original Knox & Lincoln station in Wiscaset.

Did anyone finish up the trimming of the bay 3 doors yet?  I dont remember them fitting quite right when I was up there last...

I trimmed them when you were there last. Nothing has been done to them since. I think Zack wants to put a trim board on the seam at some point.

Here's a bit more of the plans for remodeling the east wall of the shop.  The project includes moving the new east side goose neck light above the side door.  The old high level window location will be boarded over to allow the light to be centered over the door.  The overhang will be enclosed just as it is in the new section with a freeze board underneath.  The soffit enclosure will run to the northeast corner.  The new freeze board gives a place for the top of the battens to tie in.  The top of the freeze board will be the color spilt between the yellow and brown.

That is going to make a huge difference. Atleast in looks. I can't wait for the finished product.

Today, the rails were "lifted" in Bay 2 and jacked in Bay 3. I strung the rails to get them as level as possible. Zack finished the batten on the West side, then started interior work for the new windows in the original section of bay 1.

Good pictures Mike.  Sounds like you used the overhead lift on the track in bay 2.  The place sure looks big in the view looking south.  Is that a light above the big lathe?

Yes, it's a "crime light". Jason used the lathe yesterday to machine an elbow for the throttle. We used the overhead lift in Bay 2 and jacks in Bay 3. Mike got the compressor going so we used the jitter bugs to tamp. Leon will fabricate joint bars for next weekend.
