This afternoon at the railroad, Steve Z and Stewart were putting a final coat of paint over Coach 8's roof, before the smokey coal fire blackens it up this weekend.  Also, Leon and Jonathan were in the final stages of reassembling the railcar's rear wheels to the car.

Work done on May 28:

* I spent a lot of time on paperwork, including putting in for a grant.
* Jason and Rick started on final fitting of #9's frame, and ended the day with drilling and bolting to rear frame pieces and the frame connecter pieces together.
* Stewart and Leon finished up the railcar, and Stewart and I ran a break-in trip to AC and back.
* Dave, Bill, Fred, Dwight (maybe others?) did some significant weed whacking and chain sawing on the old "septic heights", cleaning up grass and tree debris, and worked their way back toward the shops area.  Also some work was done around Jayne's Way, and around the parking lots and house.
* Brigid (and I think a few others) did some gardening.  She's also selling some plants in order to raise a little money for the gardens.
* Brigid and Linda cooked a great meal.
* Bob L, Josh R, Jonathan, JB, and Steve Z ran a few trains under steam.
* John R worked on labels & postage for newsletters, assisted at times by Fred, myself, and others.

As expected, I stopped in just long enough to install a replacement window in 52.

Things went well today.   We carried almost 60 passengers.  There were a number of locals and folks from MA, PA, MO, FL, CT and England.  Some purchased combo tickets which gave them a train and railcar ride.  The railcar made a number of trips to Rosewood and back, following the steam train on a 15 minute interval.  Meets were staged at AC.  One couple missed the last train by 5 minutes and decided to wait for the it to return so they could go out on the railcar.

Fred and Dwight cut brush on the east side of the track at Rosewood crossing.  Riders from the stable come through there so it gives the crew better sight lines when working southbound.

Fred and Dwight were very lame and sore today because Bill and Dave worked us so hard Sat. cutting grass. We did only a couple of hours cleaning brush at Rosewood Crossing. Where we were working yesterday I starting cleaning up a little more this morning but stopped when I came across a wild Duck nest with 11 eggs in it. I guess everything will be just Ducky around there in a little while.

For the record, Fred worked hard yesterday earning every one of his volunteer hours. In fact, it's been awhile since I've seen Fred work like he was 25 years younger than he is.

Fred, Dwight, Stewart, and I worked a little over two hours in the morning today jacking & tamping track north of Jayne's Way.  We got about 4 lengths or 120 feet in.  Or 132 feet if the rails are 33 feet long.  Sun came out and it started to get humid and warm.

two items:  brush was also cleared on West side of Rosewood crossing

Here is a Warning to who ever uncovers the Tamper the next time it is used....Monday after the muffler had cooled down so it would not burn a hole in the tarp. the retarping crew noticed a lot of Warps flying around the tamper. A wasp nest was knocked of the underside of the tarp. The warps are still there.
