Hi Matt,

Welcome aboard. After I responded to some of your other posts, I noticed by your profile that you are 16 years old and live in Chicago. We have friends and members from all over the world and your discussion here is welcome.

You may want to try to get involved with a museum closer to home. There are a few folks that come out from the Illinois Railroad Museum each year to help us lay track. If IRM is close, someone here could probably help you get connected with someone there.

Some museums, due to insurance requirements, are forced to limit certain volunteer tasks to folks over age 18. However, there's always something to do, and even sweeping the floor is a job that needs someone to do it.

Matt, Thanks for the link.  I enjoyed the EBT video.  It's good to see a re-created coal train. The EBT's where I got my first steam cab ride.

"Some museums, due to insurance requirements, are forced to limit certain volunteer tasks to folks over age 18"

The time between 16 and 18 seems to pass in an instant!

Spoken by someone wondering exzcatly how he wound up pushing 50!

Age really is just a number. Old age all in the head...

-still the same: my knee really still hurts some days!

Steve, I can assure you that old age, even older than you, is no picnic.  More aches, pains and worn out parts.  However, I fairly certain it's far better than the alternative.  Besides, on the bright side you can use it as your excuse: "Sorry about falling asleep in my soup during dinner dear, it's this old age...".  LOL

Also thanks guys for thanking me for stiring up alot of interist in this form. Your lucky to have a person who likes trains so much that I would build a house at any railroad museum in America and live there forever and watch the steam engines go by my door all day long.  ;D ;D ;D
