The way to get your 10 percent raise is to hold out for a hundred percent raise. Management will then buckle and give you the smaller amount. The assistant pastor at a church I grew up in in Atlanta told us his sister would go to their father and demand either a new Corvette or a new dress. She didn't give him a third option of nothing so she got the dress she wanted. The man of the cloth was in awe of his sister as a negotiator.

Jock, it works much the same way in television production. If you want to shoot in Hawaii, you tell the producers you need to shoot in Japan...if you want to shoot in Mexico you tell them you need to shoot in South America  ;)
