Thanks to some work that Joseph Gilbert and I did on Friday, there should be magneto telephone service from EOT to SS. Please give it a try. Calls are free and socially distant.

Many thanks to you both. I can call most anyone I really want to talk to from the phone located in nearby Alna Center station. Alas, I still have to use the regular phone for everyone else.

I'll bet that the Alna Center phone never receives robocalls!  :P ;)

This past Saturday marked the 3rd day of our Pumpkin trains, with 3 more Saturdays to go.  I was curious just what was going on at the SeaLyon farm, so I took the 1 PM train north.

We were met with 2 hay trailers pulled by tractors.  We climbed aboard and set out, arriving at the farm by the road about 5 minutes later.  The pumpkin patch is located by 218:

Meanwhile the Lyons had set up a tent for serving food, a tent for deserts, and a tent for other goods or buying the pumpkins.

To the right of the tent further back is the spot where the bonfire would be that evening.

Deserts and farm goods:

Everyone wore their masks, there was plenty of hand sanitizer to go around.  Pumpkins were on sale from $5 to $20.  There was also a schedule on their whiteboard about when the departure from the farm would be back to the train.

Everyone seems to be having a good time, which is the important thing.

No robocalls, but Alna Center does get a lot of crank calls.   ::)
What–me worry?

Thanks for the photos, James.  From everything I hear, the Pumpkin Pickin' trains have been a hit.
What–me worry?

In James' last SeaLyon photo (the one showing two popup tents), I see that the red wood shed in the background is still where it was earlier.   Back before everything changed, ::) the WW&F was offered that shed for TOM. There was discussion about that here:
http://forum.wwfry.org/index.php/topic,3462.msg44944.html#msg44944

Is moving that shed still in the works, or have plans since changed, or ... ??

The Lyons are keeping that shed, at least for the time being. We may end up with it at some point in the future, but that has not been decided.

Anticipated work for Saturday October 17:

Forecast for Saturday 10/17 is now rain all day.
We are cancelling pumpkin trains, due to the anticipated cold, wet, windy conditions.
Passengers will be offered to reschedule for Sunday 10/25 or receive a refund.

The private charter on 10/18 is not affected by this change.

It's those cold, rainy days that you wish you were in that nice warm, smoky, dry cab shoveling coal into that firebox.

..or in the cab of 52 with the doors closed, the heater on, and windshield wipers running. I've been there and it was fine.  I felt sorry for the steam guys. ;D

I will monitor the forecast, but if what I saw tonight is accurate, heavy rain mid day. Then the winds pick up. I will probably do something indoors, but undecided what it will be.
