Actually, as of late, the stubs were difficult to move in any weather, as the rails were not sliding under the catch plates without considerable effort that may have included jumping/kicking, striking the rail with a blunt object, use of one or more joint bars, a bucket or two of water, and/or the recitation of curse words.
