Brendan and I got all the angle braces up and bolted in place. I think he was going to put in lag screws in the bottom of the braces before it got to dark. Stewart gave us some help in the morning.

Work done on Saturday Nov 16 (AM Report as I had to leave for the afternoon)

* Car barn: Brendan continued working on bolting up the posts and beams.
* Tank car 14: Zack was working on prepping the car for the tank.  It looks like the brake rigging is ready to go in.
* Pavilion: Contractor Jeff has been hauling in locally sourced gravel all week.  Mike was there working for a time.

I got bored this afternoon and found a boxcar..

But, first thing this morning, this guy strolled through..





Stacked all the rail that was in front of the boxcar in the pile on the right. Pile on the left includes some previously sorted good rails, that I put back on the pile so they would be out of the way.

The remaining boxcar in the parking lot (#??).  Is that ours, MNG, or MM?  Where does it fit into the restoration schedule?

That is ours. A gift from MNG. No present schedule to restore, but as you can see Stewart found some extra paint to help preserve what is left (and added the tarp to the roof) and make it look better. It has been on the property almost a year.

Peter Barney's book on the B&SR shows 56 as being built by the Portland Company in 1898. There are pictures on pages 53 and 53, plus a nice drawing on page 89. Evidently 56, 57, and 58 had window openings added in the 20s for stock car service. Also, 56 was later repainted as B&H 56. The car has quite a history. :)

Help my memory here, did the WW&F also have Portland boxcars or were they Laconia?

According to Barney's WW&F book, they were all Portland. Most were built in 1894.

My understanding also is that 56 was modified with windows for stock car service.  When we restore it, it should be as modified as a stock car, not just a boxcar.  That would be a unique and important contribution to preserving the legacy of the Maine two footers...

I am thinking of not being there Saturday. But want to pour the footings for the Pavilion on 12/7, so will be down at least one day next weekend.
