Museum website redesigned
« on: June 30, 2014, 01:17:08 AM »
As of this moment, the museum website has a totally new look.  Please check it out.  We are now using a Content Management System called Wordpress.

For a while part of the old site will still be seen from the new site, at least until we get everything moved over.

Yes, it is completely different.  Having answered the Museum's info email for many years, I was getting tired of constantly answering the same questions over and over.  This puts all the relevant visitor information at the finger tips.  Stuff for us train buffs are still there, just in a slightly different place.

The reason for the change is it is now much easier to make changes.

Hope everyone likes it.

Wow! Really sharp and obviously represents a huge amount of work.  :)

Only fault found so far is that the correct link for Sumpter Valley is http://www.sumptervalleyrailroad.org/

This looks amazing!  Great job.  Is there still an actual calendar available on the site?

An actual calendar still needs to be worked on.  A good thing about Wordpress is that it is so modular, it's easy to find and plug in pieces that you want.  The trick is seeing it and deciding to use it or not - and then adding all the stuff in.

I was just checking out the WW&F's THREE on-line presences.  A new, easy to navigate website, a lively and informative Facebook presence, and now on Twitter.
Wow!
Thank you to all those who set up and are keeping the sites fresh and exciting. Hopefully we will see the benefits of your efforts in increased ridership this summer. We have had such a great web site for many years and now adding the Facebook and Twitter connections should make us visible to even more potential visitors. With cellphones and tablets it is so important to look right on those small screens, and 'social media' is definitely where it's at to learn about places to visit.

So far there's only 17 followers on Twitter, but my recent post on Facebook about Mike starting grading got over 1300 views!  Now if we can only translate that to visitors and members.

By my measurement, the main line is up to 2.98 miles. Also, are we still "rebuilding a historic bridge."? Maybe "erecting a pavilion for events at Alna Center" for a more current project?

A full redesign of the website is in the works. I also have a list of changes I'd like to update in the meanwhile, but I never find the time.

The total measured track length is just over 3 miles. Once we reach 218 we will have approximately 3.25 miles of track, giving us a 6.5 mile round trip from Sheepscot to Route 218 and return.
Track laborer, roadmaster, general laborer, and much more.
