Anticipated work for Saturday Jan 19:

* "Steam and Saws" and "Steam and Sleighs" this weekend.  Trains are running Saturday (Sunday was canceled because of the storm) to take people to AC and ToM for winter activities, and take people beyond ToM for ROW clearing activity.  No doubt some will head up early to get the fires going.
* Machine shop: Getting the crane rails up in Bay 3 so that insulation can get started.
* Flatcar 34

X52 with the initial Steam & Saws crowd departs Sheepscot for end of track sometime between 8.30 a.m. and (hopefully well before) 10.  Then  X52 will meet X9 at Top of Mountain the rest of the day to shuttle volunteers to and from EOT.

X52 needs a brakeman...

Hello all,

No shop crane work this weekend as all hands will be needed to run the trains and assist with mountain work.

Today we are preparing for the event AND NEED HELP!  We’re light on volunteers this week due to sickness (bad head cold making the rounds).  We need to prep the ToM caboose and deliver it, move Ichabod, inspect the ToM trails and add a couple signs.

We’ve also started insulating the shop and will continue that today if there’s time, but that’s secondary to event prep.  Assuming we finish today- tomorrow will be all insulating.

A couple of questions regarding X52/Steam & Saws:

-- Should the Mountain work crew bring their lunches, or will lunch be brought up by X9 and exchanged with X52 at Top of Mountain?

-- Will we have a pole saw or any other saws in caboose 320?  Back during the Fall Work Weekend, we had to cut some branches to get enough clearance for the cupola.  If anything, I assume the clearances have gotten worse as this winter has progressed.

Bill,

Please find the pole saw and bring it with you in case.

Lunch will be available both at the house (beef stew) or delivered by the train (veggie soup and finger sandwiches).

Hope we have lots of mouths to feed.

Work done on Saturday Jan 19:

* Steam & Sleighs/Saws: A number of visitors for riding and for helping at the saw sites.
* Mountain Extension: A number of larger trees came down (including the big pine) and there were two fires, on either end of the cleared area from last week.  Mike wanted to finish the ditch area before the big snow.
* B&SR Flatcar 34: Crew in the shop were getting the pieces off the old flatcar for installation in the new wood.

Everyone is hunkering down tonight for the big storm.
