Hopefully we can have higher attendance cutting and burning or all of what we need to do may not get done this year. We made good progress today with an extremely small crew till near the end of the day. As always, stories were fun and full of laughter.

Walking in..

Before..

Bridge in the distance to the north..

Joe and I managed to get this much done, with Dave lending a hand in between his presidential duties..

Lunch time looking south..

Help arrived in the afternoon.

Even Fred came up to crack his whip and make us laugh

End of day..

Thanks for the updates on today's events and especially the photos from Mike.  I hope to be up next Saturday to help burn.  I need to break in my new hat...

Mike, what is the planned minimum width of the right-of-way between Locations 1 and 17?

In the sensitive areas, we are striving for an initial 10 to 15 feet from center, giving about 30 feet of clearance. Of course there are locations where visibility is a concern where we have cut more, as long as it isn't a sensitive area.

What makes an area "sensitive?"  Who decides?

Areas such as wetlands are "sensitive" areas, however we have epected to only cut 15' wide down the mountain most of the way to help minimize grass and brush cutting.

Sensitive areas are places that we never knew existed, like a Vernal Pool that we (DEP, Jason and I) found on our tour of the mountain. DEP gave us a run down on what we were looking at and what to look for.

So the Vernal Pool, the Shoreland Zone at the bridge site and at the wall are all sensitive. Other locations, like the low flow area next to where we are working, are not as sensitive, but still deserve special treatment because of how easy it would be to damage the area, and cause some erosion. The trees and vegetation help hold it all together.

Anticipated work for Saturday Jan 12:

* Mountain Extension: tree and undergrowth clearing and combustion, somewhere on the Mountain.
* Machine shop: Getting the crane rail up and prepping for insulation.

Board meeting at 4.  Should be an interesting one.

Can't wait to see what is going to make the Board meeting an interesting one.  Details afterward please, if they can be shared.

Since the general consensus seems to be towards the Enginehouse/Roundhouse as the next big fundraising project, can the BOD give some discussion and direction as to establishing the next FundRazer project account.

Unfortunately we can't share the details now (in such a public forum anyway), but some sort of public announcement will be forthcoming at some point.
