January 2019 Work Reports
« on: December 30, 2018, 06:48:59 PM »
Plan ahead.. We are expecting to start cutting and burning next weekend, January 5th. With little snow cover, it should be easy walking. I am planning to start on the bridge end. I would like to mark the limits of our cutting, so there is no question as to what we are cutting. Due to the sensitivity of the area, we will have to limit the cutting to about 15 feet from center, or less depending on location, but we can take select hazard trees outside of that.

Later in January and again in February we are planning a couple of work days like we did last year. Train ride to TOM, tree cutting in the area of Location 9 (end of track) the first day. The second day may be at the TOM itself if the Extension cutting is complete, but we will have something.

So sharpen your saw or come run ours. We have enough to do for anyone willing.

Likely we’ll hang crane rail and prep for insulation in the shop.  If there’s willing crew we may check the ToM trails and prep them for winter hiking.  There’s a little outside work at Sheepscot to do as well.

Happy New Year!

Eleven stake pockets cleaned up and ready for paint, may do the rest Weds. Then on to other small parts.

Has the second shop stove been set up?
Hanging insulation will be a chore, but well worth it, winter or summer.

Fred...a small sandblast cabinet, having used one at 2926 and C&TS, saves tedious hand labor,  works terrifically for small parts.

We have so many "irons in the fire" right now, I don't think we can afford anything more at this time. And we want to get this done fast. I'll probably finish them Weds.

Fred gets it.. We need to focus on the essentials. Keep our treasurer happy..

Anticipated work for Saturday Jan 5, 2019:

* Mountain Extension: tree and brush cutting and burning.  We're supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow Friday, so everything should be just the right amount of wintery wonderland.
* Car shop: Continuation of getting the shop cranes up and prepping for insulation.
* Flatcar 34: Continued rebuilding.

What's the provenance of flatcar 34? I'm sure it's mentioned some place......

Do we have all the stake pockets that originally came with the car or do we need to replace/replicate some?
