At the risk of starting a brouhaha, I also saw the pix of the stove on Facebook.  I am sure everyone knows that the stove will heat the place a lot better if you close those great big doors just beyond the stove...

The doors were only open long enough for the stove sealer and new pipe to heat up and stop smoking.  It was noted in the photo captions.

Doors open or shut the AMTP volunteers are going to envy you. Although the temps out here can't be liken to those in Alna, winter is mostly damp and the moisture is awful high in the engineshed , water srteams down everywhere  and if you want to work, you have to open all the doors to try to dry things off, if the sun is out of course.  BTW I love the agent station it's so US RR typical .

Anticipated work for Saturday Dec 15: Victorian Christmas!

The only official thing anyone will be working on this Saturday will be the efficient operation of Victorian Christmas.  We need parking control, crowd control, ticket booth, train crews, refreshment organizers, tour guides, etc. etc.  Ground crews needed at both Sheepscot and Alna Center.

Volunteers should make every effort NOT to park at Sheepscot.  With no snow on the ground, the corner lot is available for such.

So how did the test fire of the stove work?  Might need a ceiling fan or two to get the air circulating properly.

Work on Saturday Dec 15:

Victorian Christmas had 875 people.  Things moved along relatively efficiently, it seemed.  Everyone seemed happy.

* More free trains on Saturday, these running on the regular season time table (4 trains), for anyone that happens to show up looking for VC.  However no Santa, no horses, just a train ride.

Not sure what else will be happening.  Most people are probably getting ready for Christmas.

Is the second shop stove installed, building insulation underway, gantry work finished?
I'm sure these will be welcomed shop upgrades, help 10 get rebuilt, other indoor rolling stock work finished sooner.

So how did the 1st coal stove work out for VC?  Any idea of degrees of temperature difference?

During the Victorian Christmas event last Saturday, the coal stove was not in use. This was because Eric Schade's live steam G-scale railway was set up right next to it, and the tables serving hot cider, coffee, hot chocolate and cookies was nearby. So the doors to Bay 2 were wide open at the north end of the building, and the doors to bay 3 on the south end were as well.
