Yes Paul. There will be a culvert placed under the siding to connect the main line ditches. Also, a left over short section will go by the switch stand to ensure continuity of the ditch.

Glad to see the culverts.  Would have been a bear to go back in the spring to put them in.

Darn, every time I read an update on the new switch and upcoming siding to ML&M I have to fight the urge to jump in my car and run up to Maine to help.  Alas, domestic tranquility requires that I not make a fourth trip to my favorite railroad in one year and so have to wait until Spring.  Time passes so slowly in the short days of winter.

However, the constant and frequent updates on the forum, along with the pictures on Face-book make life a little more tolerable in the southern climes.

Yes. This is Maine. November is a snow month. Any construction after November 1 should expect frost and slippery conditions.

To date this year, I have received 17 inches of snow just a little more inland, and it isn't even Thanksgiving.

Brian is supposed to unload the flatcar on Friday, but that's his work, not ours.

The "new" flat car sides are stored in the car barn if anyone is interested in using them to help reduce shoveling on the outside. I will try to be there Saturday, but that is now work pending.

Instead of pushing the forklift up the hill, should have used the road. No chains for the forklift. It would make lugging anything hard from the shaking and vibrating.

Perhaps we could take a hint from those railroaders and put sand down on the slope between the house and the bathroom building.

The only work plan I know of is picking up the now-empty flatcar from Brian's returning the shop and loading some reject rail and a couple of frogs from Davis on it, and redelivering back to Brian. So we'll need help with the rail and frog pick up.  Whether Brian is around to direct our efforts, I don't know.

Brian isn’t able to be there tomorrow, nor am I, unfortunately.  James is correct on the requested work.  I’ll call in the morning with specifics.  We can also develop plans to keep the crew productive for the remainder of the day.

Brian plans two stub switches in the first 90’ or so of track.  Where that doesn’t leave room for a conventional derail, several of us devised a clever alternative- we have a 3 way stub stand, works like a de rail stand but 3 position.  It’ll be placed on the first (2 way) stub switch, and the stands 3rd position will be the normal position, set to derail away from the main.
