Work done on Saturday July 7:

Thankfully the hot humid weather broke yesterday, and today was cool(ish) and comfortable. 

* Ice Cream Social: over 150 people attended.  Trains had plenty of people in them.
* Bridge: Preservative was applied to the cross pieces and the large approach timbers.  Meanwhile Zack was working to put ties on the bridge, worked in with the cross braces.
* Caboose: Marcel was working on the across-the-car pieces and was starting to work on the along-the-car pieces.
* Weed whacking: Joe was trimming weeds.
* Mountain Extension: Mike was spreading gravel.  Fred and minions finished cutting up the soft wood and delivering it up the road.

Fred and his minions must have been busy today.  When Dave and I stopped by around 8.30, there still was quite a bit of pine to be cut up and hauled away.  Must have been multiple trips.

I heard the paid ticket count was 165 today.  I saw lots of families having a good time both at Alna Center and on the train.  Thank goodness the weather was much better today than it has been the past week -- a bit cooler (still warm) and more importantly not muggy.

Revised plan for this week:

The bridge limber truck did not arrive as expected Friday.  As a result, today was spent working on approach span beams and painting the bridge, along with a few smaller projects.

Bridge lumber truckload arrives tomorrow morning.  After unloading, we head up to do put out silt fence and work with contractor Jeff to finish up some roadbed repairs near end of track.

On Wednesday and Thursday we start building abutments.

While I can’t be here Saturday, I hope to arrange a crew foreman to carry on with abutment construction.  Once that is confirmed I’ll post that crew leader here.

Hello all,

My girlfriend and I are interested in coming up for the 27th-29th to help volunteer. After she plays at the Ossipee Music Festival on Friday, we were thinking we would come up to the railway and do some volunteering and camping if possible. I've been involved with a number of narrow gauge steam operations out west and we are heading to Wales in August to volunteer on The FFWHR for a few weeks so we figured this would be a good precursor to our 2 foot gauge excursion. Would love to know what is going on that weekend and what we may bring along to help. Luckily I packed a pair of bibs and some boots! Would love to help do some track work, load coal, paint, sand, etc. Put us to work!
