Freeville 2' gas engine, two mine dump cars, and track panel
« on: November 19, 2017, 12:13:28 AM »
Anybody ever brought up the 2' gas engine, two mine dump cars, 2' truck, and track panel (looks like Decauville) in Freeville, NY? Track panel looks lightweight. Maybe 25 pound rail? I was driving past it on Friday. Stopped in to the building, got a phone number for the owner. It's probably been sitting there for twenty years. They said they ran it last year and it ran fine. Owner had .... plans .... but time and resources are always limited.

Is this something useful to the museum? Should I make inquires? I have no use for it myself given that I'm selling the 87 acres of land on which I would install the track. I can't afford to buy it and donate it to the museum, either, so it would need a special fund-raising plan.

Interesting -- I went to college about 10 miles away from Freeville in the 1990s (i.e. ~20 years ago), and this is the first I've heard of this equipment. Where exactly is it located?

Our own Bob Longo lives near this equipment and is familiar with it.  If we have any interest he’d be a logical contact, however I’m not sure we’re interested in it at this time.

Thanks for pointing it out,
Happy Thanksgiving

I couldn't find my pictures, but you can see it reasonably well from the Google Street View picture: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.5155589,-76.3448299,3a,75y,304.16h,77.91t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sUnTpueeBAkE5aoh295BUIA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

It all looks rather lightweight and I can see how it wouldn't be too useful. Still, it's been sitting there for twenty years and if approached by a non-profit, the owner might be willing to donate it just to be done with it.. His name is Milan (don't know if that's first or last) and the phone is 607-342-5960.

Looks a lot like our Brookville loco.

I think Wayne has it correct.  The loco has the same fuel tank, sanding box, shift and sanding levers, exhaust port, etc. as our Brookville.

I think an inquiry would be worth while.  One never knows when we will have future needs for this equipment.  We are now using dump car frames for a lot of MOW equipment and a spare Brookville will be very handy as our main line and yard tracks continue to grow.

Just a thought that asking is free.

Could be a parts machine.. We have an ancient fleet of mechanical equipment, and spare parts may be hard to come by.

Agreed, if not as a donation, then maybe scrap price?

We have a spare Continental engine and transmission for the Brookville.

Yes, I agree it is a Brookville similar to our #51.
