Old Postings - Stay or Go?

I've gotten conflicting public and private comments about the conversion of the old forum posts. Let me know how you want me to proceed.

Ed, as you said the old forum could disappear, I would agree that you should save that info by integrating it into this one.  (yep, I voted!)
I would again like to commend you and James for all the effort that you put into keeping us all informed!

Ed --

Would it be possible to add a new category titled "Original Forum Postings" or something like that, so that all the old items are in one place but aren't pushing the new stuff down out of sight? If someone takes the time to read through them and finds a subject of current interest, they could start a new thread under the appropriate heading in the existing categories with reference to the old topic.

Thanks for all your hard work on this forum, too.

Cheers -- Wayne

I like Wayne's idea, so I added it as its own poll answer. The one thing I would suggest is that if anyone responds to an old post, the moderators will move it to the 'active' area.

You may go back and change your vote (if you so wish.)

I like waynes Idea. I was wondering if there was a way to put them all under one title like Old Forum under museum discussion. Then once you open that, it would break down even more like it is now.

I could make a new category (General Category, WW&F Railway Museum Discussion, The Original WW&F, Other Maine Two Foot Gauges, Worldwide Two Foot Gauges, and Other Narrow Gauge are the existing categories) called Archived Discussion Posts and then split it up in there into sections.

Or, I could add a new section for each category. For example, in WW&F Railway Museum Discussion, we already have Museum Discussion, Volunteers, and Work and Events. I would add a fourth section, Archived Discussion Posts that would contain all the old posts in all of the sections in that category.

Regardless, if someone replies to an old post, I'll move it into the active area.

The first option is slightly easier. The second option is (probably) more functionally useful.

I've got a busy schedule for the next few days - so any change will come at the end of this week.

I moved the postings that I converted last week into "Archive" categories - with the exception of those that got one or more responses.

I also posted a dozen or so new posts. Many more will follow.

Ed I think the way you have been posting is good, and I voted so, if you make a new catagory to post all the information from the old board it will be so big most people will not get through it all. I feel that if it out there as it is now new people like Matt who ask seeming dumb questions can be refered to places in yhe old posts for answers. Then if they still have questions they con proceed from there.

Thanks for all the feedback.

I happened to make it to Sheepscot yesterday and everyone liked the new way I'm bringing the posts over. I even got two requests to convert specific conversations and categories.

The process is somewhat manual and pretty time consuming - but I'll get it done, eventually.
