Pctures from Jason of today's trackwork. Jason reports from Jayne's Way to Brook Crossing the crew raised about 20 joints and replaced 10 ties.

Special thank you to everyone today that helped. At one point we had 6 guys, and that worked out very well. It was a great day. Almost every joint on Davis curve was raised and tamped, with the exception of 3 joints that were good. 11 ties were replaced. And some dress stone is needed, but man what a different look.

What, no more rock n' roll?
Seriously, thank you everyone, for making the effort on track maintenance.
It isn't glamorous, and it's a lot of hard work, but certainly it is necessary and appreciated.

The current plan is to continue north doing all of the low joints or dips. Unless we decide there is another area in dire need of attention. A few spots may be skipped temporarily due to extensive track work involved, but todays efforts worked very well and with a very good level of efficiency. Changing ties is hands down easier the way we were able to do them today. And the best part is that while changing them, we never slowed progress of the tamper. We were changing ties by hand in a matter of 10-15 minutes per tie. As opposed to a tie per man per hour when only changing ties.

Bravo tracksters! Way to go.
Hard work, but damned well worth it.

Let's see, 2.5 miles divided by 160 MPH equals about 1 minute Sheepscot to TOM.

That would certainly reduce the wait time for special events!   ;D

Back on page four of this thread, John Kokas mentioned small tie inserter/extractor machines. Here's a photo of one at th Buckgahuda & Western in St. Marys, Pa. It is a Canron Section Gang machine. It's adjustable from standard to three-foot to two-foot gauge, and according to Tom Bauer of the B&W who sent the photo, it has done work in all three gauges. It features a couple of hydraulic cylinders that can lift the rail a bit to make it easier to make the exchange, and the appendage closest to the camera has a jaw that grips the tie. Some models also include rubber tires so it can be easily removed from the track to allow trains to pass. If we could track one of these down, we'd be all set.

Thanks Wayne for locating a photo of exactly what we need.  Time to start looking around shortlines and used RR equipment places to find one, even if in need of some TLC/rebuilding.  I know our capable staff at ROWMOW Mfg. could get one ship-shape in no time!  Wayne can you tell us what model that unit is?  Would help in searching............
