Nice video of the Fichtelbergbahn from July 2016.

Lots of "spit and polish".  Perhaps my favorite German preserved line.

Beautiful! I love that herd of tiny drivers beneath the chubby boiler! Is this near Dresden?

Hi Guys,

Sorry to take so long to get back.  Computer problems.

Yes Ira, you and James are correct and John is right too.  The Fichtelbergbahn is 750mm gauge and is southwest of Dresden.  It runs between Cranzahl and Kurort Oberwiesethal.  There are quite a few of these preserved railways near Dresden ... Saxony and West Germany are home to quite a number of them.  There are a fair number of 600mm railways in the same area too.

Although these railways are very similar in gauge to the Austrian 760cm lines (like the famous Zillertalbahn), there is a markedly different "feel" between the two.

Best Regards,
Glenn
